  • Don't complain about lack of options. You've got to pick a few when you do multiple choice. Those are the breaks.
  • Feel free to suggest poll ideas if you're feeling creative. I'd strongly suggest reading the past polls first.
  • This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you're using these numbers to do anything important, you're insane.

Having said that, the music of The Smiths are miles better than Mozzer's solo efforts, obviously....

  • The charts have been obsolete forever now.

These competitions are just a windfall for record companies. Not they, nor anybody, cares about a chart position, so long as that money is rolling in.

Morrissey and the Smiths have always been about the lyrics and the music. It's never been about the charts.

I agree with the above. I'd like to hear from people who support this and find out why they feel it's worth their time and money, and exactly how does anyone benefit? Seriously... I couldn't imagine wasting my time on this chart stuff. I like the Smiths and Morrissey because it means alot to me. That's the extent of it. I have friends who hate the music and that's fine. I think their missing out on something great, but they certainly don't have to like it. Why should I care if the songs "appear" to be accepted into the charts, when it's basically a hoax and the same people are voting over and over etc...

There was a purpose and genuine motivation behind the Rage Against the Machine campaign, which was able to get a large group of the population together in protest of X-Factor monopolising the X-Mas no. 1 slot. A lot of people who didn't actually like the song downloaded it to take part in something historic. In short, the campaign meant something.

This one, however, doesn't. It's just another group of fans getting together to try to make their favourite band no. 1. Frankly, it's embarrassing. I don't want to see The Smiths get to no. 1 on the back of a previous campaign. If The Smiths/Morrissey ever get to no. 1, it should also mean something.

I took part in the RATM campaign, but I won't be participating in this one even though The Smiths are my favourite band ever.

Very true and sums up my view on the matter too.

The RATM FB campaign was a movement and moment in time that a thousand people will now try to recapture on an ongoing basis.

It also condemns any legitimate 'protest' xmas no.1 or any other significant position now doomed to fail, as many pretenders will try to push their 'favourite' band (missing the point entirely) as a potential hit and split the protest vote into many smaller camps

  • Yes in a move thats set to shock the music industry to its very foundations there is a FB campaign to get The Vapors ode to the joys of self-pleasure back to number one.

Rumours that a moderator on the Morrissey website is to appear in the video are as yet unfounded. The video is to be directed by Godley and Creme

  • We'd all love The Smiths to be No1, but not a track we've already bought years ago! Morrissey and co have already become millionaires form our support!

You wouldn't be proving anything from buying a Smiths song on iTunes. You'd just be making Mr Joyce a little bit richer.
