I suppose its the best of the B Sides material, but it would be nice if he threw in something special to make it really worth buying, such as a studio take on "I'm Playing Easy to Get."

I guess the live set will be nice, but its not as though the shows of late have been super-exciting from a set list perspective.

I wonder if this UK release will be followed by a US release with a 9-track bonus disc (as before, with the Greatest Hits). I think maybe I'll wait and see.

There are a couple of stinkers in the track listing, but for the most part, these recent b-sides stand right up to (or are better than) any b-side Morrissey has ever done solo, or with The Smiths. Fantastic stuff from a legendary artist.

        • yes i wondered if 'symphonies' starting the NME comp was a sign that he felt he'd made a mistake. 'symphonies' sounds to me like it was long-crafted, whereas 'america' sounds like a relatively last-minute stab at iraq-invasion topicality. though i suspect 'you know i couldn't last' was always going to be the 'quarry' closer, a 'speedway'-type parting-shot.

thanks i forgot about 'public image', i agree it should be on 'swords'. just listened to it again, beautiful (if a bit long?). and i agree about 'Pigsty' and 'Dear God'- i think it's amazing when he gets to 'the heart feels free' - though i find the kegs are a bit of an obstacle.

oh well the good news (i think) is that the album is fast becoming history as the ipod kills the cd. i wonder if any 2000's albums will retain much status in future - i suspect it'll be songs that people remember, which is good since pop music was always about songs not albums. it was only in the late 60s that pop LP's took on some pretentious pseudo-importance.

moz's career contains numerous tracks, buried on b-sides at first, but which naturally acquired classic status or became live favourites:

          how soon is now
          Disappointed
          ganglord
I've Changed My Plea To Guilty
          Jack The Ripper
          The Loop
          Sister I'm A Poet
Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want
          Rubber Ring
          Asleep
          Stretch Out And Wait

  • This album is better than all three past albums. There should be some inclusion of unreleased songs or at least a new song. The live stuff will be nice if it contains When I last spoke to Carol. Other than that he's playing the same set list and Ive heard it a hundred times. What about to the Buzzcocks song? He did it once in Israel and that was it!

  • ...to duplicate that track listing in iTunes since it's all been seen before. Hopefully the photography/design/liner notes will make up for lack of anything new.
Now the inclusion of Bowie's song over some of his self-penned stuff is perplexing. Won't he have to shell out more cash to his former idol for rereleasing his song? Surely including it on a "major" release is bigger than throwing it on a vinyl b-side...
