  • - Was it just me or was it hot or what inside the venue? It was boiling. - "Find out for yourself" is sublime live! The band do it very well. Whereas "You Just haven't Earned it yet" is a bit too hard rock. Just my opinion. - The Sparks cover "Moon Over Kentucky" was a bit too arty perhaps...there was virtually no reaction from the crowd. I don't think it will stay on the setlist for long but who knows. - After "Poor Education" Morrissey asked if it was boring. There was a mix of "Yes" and "No" shouts... - Matt Walker is one hell of a drummer, just gets better & better. - This time Moz had a dig at the Royal Family & Buckinham Palace before "Crashing Bores". And how it's all funded by Tax payers money ("Your money!") - Moz was very generous with handshakes during the one & only encore "Gang". Quite a few people crowd surfed over the barrier during the encore. - Brixton Academy looked pretty much full.

2nd show in 4 days. That man is addictive. The new material was rapturously received, to my surprise. Poor Education is a lovely song, I'd never heard it before. Great bit before Crashing... it was something like, 'I was unfortunate enough to drive past Buckingham Palace today. There was an event going on, everyone dressed up. This is something you pay for, whether you like it or not. I believe it's called Communism!' ;-)

Voice sounded the best I've heard it in a long time. Band sounded muddy, but that's not them, it's the shitty sound system (every gig I see there sounds awful!). Pigsty was a highlight. At the start you could hear people talking. By the end they were paying rapt attention, it was that good.

Shirt off right before the encore, and again at the end. Several tried to get to him, as always, and most made it to a handshake. It's getting harder to get on the stage! There's a no crowd surfing sign at Brixton, it was always going to be like that. Great audience, very into it. I wish I could see him live every night!

It was originally planned on Friday, good to see many people turned up.
I had to swap my standing ticket to circle due to back pain.
The heat was also unbearable ih the upstaris.
Morrissey came on stage in a white shirt, was totally soaked in sweat after 'How Soon Is Now?', but didn't go to change his shirt until after 'One Day Good Bye Will Be Farewell.

At the end of 'Boy Happy' Kris had some trouble with playing trombone, but somehow managed to back on track quickly.

Personal highlight was 'Moon Over Kentucky' Morrissey's voice was superb, he really enjoyed singing it.
Before next song 'Crashing Bores' he quipped that he was passing by Buckingham Palace this afternoon, saw many people were queuing for Queen's tea party.
Generals with many medals who have never heard of gun shot were got paid by 'you' (pointed his finger at the audience).
When he started singing the song I noticed his voice was bit rougher at chorus part, but rest of the gig turned out fine.

Many people succeeded to get hand shakes with Morrissey during 'The First Of The Gang To Die' which made us cheer.

Really look forward to seeing tomorrow's grand finale.

The higlights were Paris, Irish Blood, Ask, Crashing Bores, and the wonderful encore - lots of people made desperate attempts to reach the very distant stage. The crowd loved the comments about Buckingham Palace. Great fun. Not that much banter between songs but Moz and the band were in fine form.

  • Just to prewarn people who are seated upstairs tomorrow night. My friend and I were there tonight for an absoloutely fantastic show. However, the seat position we were in, meant that all the piss heads who cant go to a gig without buying gallons of ale and then having to get rid of it in the toilet almost ruined it for us passing in front every few minutes. It drove us mad. I didnt pay money to see my hero and get my view interrupted over and over by men and women carrying full glasses of beer and then walking past with empty glasses and then again with full glasses and then going past again on numerous toilet runs.

If you are up there pick seats that aren't in a frontal position and next to an aisle where people have to pass. I barely saw any of Moz during the Sparks track as it seemed, because most of these nuisances didnt know the track, they all left on mass to go to the bar.

Disappointment vanished though because we decided as it was such a pain, to miss the last couple of tracks and go to the concession stand to hopefully get a signed vinyl each. We did, numbers 1 and 2, so this more than made up for it all.

  • My first Morrissey gig was in Cambridge, just a few days after Moz started again after his voice problems. All I can say is wow. I now know what he sounds like without problems. Moon over Kentucky was superb for showing this off with the warbles.

Well done to the guy 2 people away from me that got his shirt! I though the bouncer was going to give it to the guy next to him at first. I saw the again again at Fenchurch street station, very much jealous and too learn he got a signed vinyl at the Troxy as well when I couldn't get one at Brixton even though I rushed out. I am rather annoyed.

  • I'd not been along to any of the other Brixton shows, and don't have a ticket for tomorrow, so after seeing him at Troxy on Saturday I was really looking forward to this gig.

Got in fairly early and secured a decent spot right behind the first row of people on the barrier. Started chatting to a nice young girl (who is on solo, but I have already forgotten her name - d'oh) and her brother and explained that I had some friends coming in.

Now, space saving actually does really piss me off, but as they'd said they would be in shortly after me, I genuinely thought they would be... I was wrong. They arrived during Doll and The Kicks and were really obnoxious and shoving everyone around.

I would like to apologise if your enjoyment of the gig was ruined by my friend... I share your annoyance! Still, this was compounded further by a couple of right cows who clawed and elbowed their way to the front about three quarters of the way through.

Sadly the young girl and her brother, who had also been patiently waiting at the front, ended up three or four rows back.

From that point of view, I enjoyed the gig much less than Troxy, where I was again right at the front and near enough to feel how close his hand was as he touched the hand of the person in front of me. The Troxy crowd were much better behaved and the rowdiness does affect my enjoyment somewhat as I have to keep pushing people away to avoid being injured by their stupid elbows!

Aside from that... what of the man himself?

    (emits long swooning sigh)

He seemed on good form again, no sign of any frogs in his throat. At one point he seemed to walk slightly too close to the stack of amps on stage right, and there was some feedback. He looked at someone off stage and shrugged before returning to centre stage, cracking the mic cord and continuing.

Cover of "Moon over Kentucky" was good. I suppose it is a risk doing something people don't necessarily know, especially if it isn't a real rocking number with a catchy chorus, but why shouldn't he use his opportunity to introduce us to new music? Were it not for Moz, I'd probably not have got in to Sasha Distel (which you might think would have been a blessing)!

As for the venue, well I have always had a soft spot for Brixton, having gone to see one of my first ever proper gigs there when I was about 16 (not Morrissey). I prefer these smaller venues, but I really wish the gap between barrier and stage had been smaller.

Great to see so many people getting handshakes during "First of the Gang". He seemed really keen to give people what they wanted in that respect. One day I will have the guts to attempt a stage invasion myself.

All in all, a good gig, with a good set list, though I was a little disappointed with the behaviour of the crowd (mainly my friend).

Next stop for me is Bournemouth... I can hardly wait... but I can, I must!

  • Take me with you (Score:3, Informative)

Another great show, I really enjoyed it. Slightly more so today than yesterday as I had a better spot, though my ribs are suffering for it. Morrissey looked very fetching in a pale blue shirt and the boys wore white shirts with black bow ties.

Morrissey sang very well. The band played very well. There were no major surprises tonight (not for those who attended the last few London gigs, anyway) but he didn't play 'I Keep Mine Hidden', 'Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others' and instead brought back 'Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself' and 'One Day Goodbye Will Be Farewell'. He also played 'Mama...' again.

Not that much banter tonight, nor were there many handshakes (except during the encore when he was a bit more generous).

After introducing the band, Morrissey said of himself "... and Shame is the name" before launching into the next song. At one point he asked "this isn't too ... (I can't remember the first word) for you? This isn't too existenialist for you? No?". Before 'Crashing Bores' he told of driving past Buckingham Palace where the queen was holding some event and honouring useless generals with lots of badges and ribbons or whatever they're called who had never seen gunfire or something, which he described as communism. "And I thought to myself, as I sometimes do, the world is full of crashing bores." After playing 'Because Of My Poor Education' which the audience didn't react to very well, probably due to being unfamiliar with it, Moz asked "Are you bored?" to which most people down my end replied "no". Morrissey asked the audience to give a special round of applause to Matt Walker who was "trying very hard at playing the drums [sic]". Or was it "doing very well"? My poor brain refuses to co-operate.

It was a pleasure to hear 'Moon Over Kentucky' and '...Education' again. His voice sounded quite exquisite during the Sparks cover, which I very much enjoyed. It was good to hear 'Mama' again too, and I really love the live version of 'Carol'.

Quite a few shirts were thrown on stage (what shirts were they?), and a (fake, I think) flower and some other things. The 'you're too frinky' sign made an appearance again, but Morrissey didn't take it.

Thank you to the lovely gorilla who gave me a plectrum - I don't know whose it was, however. Who uses Tortex Dunlop .73mm picks? Knowing my luck, it's probably one used by DATK's guitarist. A lady near me got one of the set lists, lucky!

A quick few lines about the support band. Doll and the Kicks put on a good show again, played mostly the same songs but also added 'Cry In The Kitchen' which I like but the band's playing wasn't too tight on that one. Hopefully tomorrow they might play 'If You're Gonna Leave Me'. That's pretty much it.

That's me done. I leave you in high spirits, looking forward to tomorrow but also slightly saddened that it is the last concert for a while. Let's make tomorrow a good one!

Venu ewas hot, but a good gig. My one complaint, as ever with Moz gigs, is the lack of enjoyment down the front. Did anybody else find the people at the front very rude? I was second row, next to a girl with a mass of very long frizzy hair, most of which ended up in my mouth or in my eyes (tip: if this is you, invest in a hair bobble, I can still taste your Herbal Essences) and her elbow was constantly jabbing into my ribs as she tried to push me behind her, rather than just getting on with enjoying the show. I have been to hundreds of gigs, am used to being pushed and am all for exuberance, especially in the presence of the great man himself, but we are all there to see him and manners would be nice x

My new friend and her husband will be new Morrissey concert goers from now on. She was also all smily as we left the venue and talked about how great his voice was. Oh yes. Morrissey sounded and looked great. She was very lucky with her choice of first concert. :-) As the band came on stage she immediately said that she had seen Morrissey in the street earlier that evening, just before she met me, and she said she spotted some BBC presenters at the Academy whom I would not have recognized because I do not now them, do I.
