Jello Biafra is in Dublin Wednesday 21st in the Laughter Lounge. While looking at some youtube clips of his stand-up shows, I found one where the public image of Morrissey and his fans is abominably exploited for comic effect.

For anyone who hasn’t seen it, it is located between 1 – 1.30 minutes:

  • punk legend - but not a stand up. Peter Kay's job is safe!

  • ass.

    More importantly, what is going on with so called "Punk Legends" becoming comediennes?

    You would think that ranting about teenage style political theories would be enough in shitty, disjointed songs.

    He's lost his demographic. Hopefully he lampooned Ireland's trampling of abortion rights, and their own kooky, religious fixations. I doubt it, though.

    He has to sell his own form of national self-deprecation.

  • As much as I love Morrissey, I still love Jello. He's just a meanie, not like he's saying stuff millions of others haven't said.
    His other stuff is great =).

  • cuz it's not stand up comedy, it's a "spoken word performance."

    equally lame, but there is a difference.

    and yeah, the bald spot, wrangler shirt and spare tire makes him look like your wacky uncle

  • and it got a big laugh and applause from the audience.

    There's always been a very high level of camp and absurdity to the whole thing - that's what makes it healthier than most religions I've encountered, and much more fun, too. I don't think it's a slur to suggest that there may be some sexual ambiguity involved. Last time I saw Morrissey he was surrounded by nearly-naked, bruised men in loincloths, and he was grinning from ear-to-ear. I think he's well aware of the humor inherent in the situation.

    If Moz did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him.
  • I mean Jello (everyone knows Moz can't possibly be gay - wink, nudge). He always had a slight lisp, but it's over-the-top camp city now. Might as well wear a tutu.

  • I vote funny. At least he didn't go on about it. Just one quick line referring to the over the top adoration many of us have had, do have, will have, are ashamed we have, or proud, or ambivalent we have, tortured, or gratified, I have forgiven Morrissey:}
