This is the message from our Man which will clear any doubts on his "retirement":

28 August 2008

MESSAGE FROM MORRISSEY.

I would like to stress to members of TTY that the recent quotes on NME.com attributed to me concerning "retirement" and "final concerts" were not made by me, and that the NME are wrong to put my name next to these quotes.

Furthermore, I would like to stress that my knowledge and involvement with "season tickets" and ticket prices for the upcoming shows is zero, and I have nothing at all to do with the way by which tickets are sold or priced. People who think I am involved in that side of the presentation overestimate me - I actually have pitifully short legs - there's only so much I can do.

Thanks to those of you who have bought tickets, and thanks to those even considering coming along. With so many US concerts this year your loyalty has already been over-stretched, so if you decide to pass, that's OK.

Morrissey, 28 August 2007.

"If you Decide to Pass, that's OK." I love that...in a good sense...it made me smile...Thanks Moz, for permission :)

I'll place a bet now - 5 out of 10 - "a letdown after YATQ and ROTT" - even if it's his best record, which I hope it is.

I have more than considered it: I went over to the Orpheum Theatre in Boston website and bought my ticket on presale for row AA (waaay up there in the front). He wants to see people's eyes. Well, he'll see my pale ones. Not an impressive pair of eyes, Sire, but enthousiastic indeed.

BTW, thanks again for adding Atlanta back in- we have a lot to make up for, and at the Tabernacle, you'll be surrounded by your true fans once again.

See you in Atlanta... and New York... and Washington DC... and possibly Boston... But NEVER in Bakersfield.

  • Im going to the LA shows. but how?

Buy a "season ticket" or try to get single show tickets? Good luck with that! I have little or no confidence in getting tickets that way.... If the tickets are sent in the form of a single ticket that is scanned nightly it will thus hinder the ticket useless! Useless in as much as I can only attend 6 shows at most, probably only 5...so what to do with the other 4? Ticketmaster has no answers for any questions...the ticket cant be mailed and returned in time, I dont live in LA so I cant give the ticket in person to anyone and get it back a day or two later...so two tickets will be sitting on a table for at least 4 shows. What sense does that make?

Any suggestions about the "lost" tickets? If TM sent out 10 individual tickets I would put them on ebay at face value but that it seems makes too much sense. Whatever way this mess gets dressed up its bullshit. Thats without even mentioning those who cant afford $500, It does not sit well with me and I know one thing, If the New York Dolls had played 10 shows in Manchester in the early 70's and had this same deal back then. Well, a young schoolkid or teenage unemployed Moz wouldnt have gone to ANY shows....Moz is holding his hands up saying "Nothing to do with me" re the packages. Forgive me for being skepticle about that.

  • Strange indeed.

I understood that if it was on TTY it was gospel - straight from the source. Now it appears that this is not the case. There is some confusion about what he is referring to, exactly - the bogus NME article (which was clearly bulls***t), or the recent press release, which seemed to have some very personal (and apparently misleading) sentiments in it. It would appear that the press release was served up on TTY without Morrissey's input, which strikes me as completely undermining the whole point of Julia's site to begin with.

One thing is for sure - I have never heard any other artist promote such a marathon run with the words "if you decide to pass, that's OK." Morrissey just redefined nonchalant.

Is it? Is it really okay? I highly doubt that. Seriously, if he plays to only half filled venues he'll blame everyone and everything. He'll blame the radio stations for not playing his music; the record company for not promoting, the bum on the street outside the arena for stinking up the joint. etc. It's okay?
