  • How great would it have been for Moz to have a No 1 single!! Sigh...

  • I didn't think this single would crack the top 20. So, I guess #16 is not that bad.

  • out of habit and fetishism i bought all formats ..
on reflection it's the worst single he has ever issued. .and that's saying something after the last two

    nice version of "speedway" nonetheless..

  • Not an obvious single, but I disagree with the above. By releasing it as a single, it gets you to take notice of a track that was otherwise lost on the CD. And the brass at the end is superb.
What a stupid fuss about the bloody sleeve - who cares!!!???

  • Is a cool song with cool lyrics,I speacially like the lyrics.I personally don't care if any of his singles are succesful;I mean it's great to see them there, but there just great on their own without them being on some chart.

#16? I'd be surprised to hear that more than sixteen people actually bought this single.

  • Dear Friends,

It's not available here in the US, but I will somehow get a copy anyway.

I am sick and tired about comments pertaining to the sleeve. Please compare this single's sleeve to any singles recorded by-

    Broccoli Spears
    Paris Hilton
    Janet Jackson
    K-Fed

Now tell me all about Morrissey's sleeve.
The single AND the sleeve are BRILLIANT.

If not- you can always listen to K-Fed's rap, which employs a rhyme-scheme of:

"Let me see your kitty/ And a little bit of titty."

    Thank-you.

    Sincerely,
    Ken

  • This single reached #16.... because the B side had such alot of bad publicity by you lot, that everyone just had to rush out and find out what it was really like for themselves!! I did, but just love "Sweetie Pie". I am outraged to think this is a Morrissey Fans website when all the above comments are so disgustingly bad.

  • Considering that this was only available on one cd & the others were available on two, 16 isn't a bad position at all.
I don't understand all the crap on here about it being a bad single. The a side is fine, not his best (but how often are fourth singles from any album that good) but pretty good. And I don't get the fuss over Sweetie Pie. It's experimental. Some may say shit but anyway. If you're just going to put songs that sound like all the rest on a single, what's the point?
My critisism of it is putting on four year old live tracks. The sound at the Albert Hall was terrible & the band sounded like they'd not done a gig in three years... because they hadn't.

  • So let me get this straight....Morrissey releases the most immediate and rocking song on an otherwise 'meh' album, and you guys slam it as shit? Really, would you prefer Morrissey have no edge at all and release "Ouija Board, Ouija Board" for eternity?

"You Have Killed Me" and "Youngest Was The Most Loved" both sound like everything Morrissey has done since Maladjusted. Formula, people. At least this single is a little DIFFERENT from the rest instead of being the same old stuff.

And "Broccoli Spears" wasn't funny or clever when Morrissey said it. It's less funny when you people say it. Not that I'm defending her.

  • It's not exactly a classic is it? Although it's quite nice live.

Morrissey needs to actually pen a few catchy singles for the next record - you know, with a melody and a few hooks. Hmmm, I hope to God he doesn't release another mid-paced collection of plodders that amount to the auditory equivalent of slurry, diluated with water.

Even 'Pigsty' is profoundly underwhelming - what could have been expansive, powerful and experimental ended up as, well, a rather pale imitation of 'Exit Music' by radiohead, with a few cliched Morrissey-by-numbers lyrics thrown in for good measure.

Surely he can do better than this? Quarry says he can.

Next time, let's have raucous dynamism a la Daddy's Voice, climactic pop a la Now My Heart is Full, throwaway gems like FOTGTD and a few noisier, darker numbers a la Maladjusted or Teachers.

No more f***ing 'On The Streets I Ran' or 'The Youngest Was The Most Loved' dross. Thanks.
