I felt good after reading this letter. The last letter he wrote to true-to-you seemed cold and distant, as if it really might be the end of tour. This letter feels as if he has his "edge" back and that swagger of almost optimism/happiness in his words.

I too am holding out even more hope for a U.S. Tour after reading the comment about Kristeen and St.Loius.

America may not be the world, but we do wish for a solid portion of the ROTT tour to grace our shores~

Congratulations to the American fans - it seems at last you will finally have your chance; absolutely fantastic news!

I had to laugh at his comments made about the Live At Earl's Court LP - the first thing I noticed upon purchasing it was the misprinting of TMYIMTCIG and Bigmouth. I would hope Moz feels at least slightly comforted by the fact that the inner sleeve features some most excellent photographs of him and the band (but I doubt that very much).

The man writes like no one else.

His words are so delightful, I get captivated by his tales and the way he finish his sentences with pieces from his lyrics (..nobody knows what human life is) nobody can do better than He. I love it!! I'm liking this new talkative Morrissey. Isn't it great that he bothers? I'd have thought he'd have had enough of us by now and be glad to get back to his quiet life.

He is really taken with Kristeen Young, isn't he? Can't share in his enthusiasm there. I thought she was awful, but good for her getting a big thumbs up from Morrissey and a plug for her single.

I'm glad he's had as much pleasure in the tour as we have. Well most of us anyway.

I guess this is as close as we're gonna get to an apology from Moz for his disgraceful behaviour onstage at The Sage. I accept that it must be unsettling for him to see one or two disinterested faces immediately in front of him. I still think, however, that he should have shown more professionalism and consideration for the rest of the audience - true fans who in some cases had gone to great lengths to be there.

Appalling behaviour onstage notwithstanding, I would like to praise Moz for finally taking the trouble to communicate more directly to his fans through true-to-you.

As an Austrian it is so nice to read that he likes Austria so much. Thanx Mozza!

Holy Crap! Last tour he skipped St. Louis and KC. I'm freaking out!!! Hopefully he will play the Pageant which has been built since his last trip through on the Maladjusted tour. He played the American Theater back then.

... Might offer up some final Christmas dates too?

What a great letter, how I would have loved to have witnessed the Ernie Wise moment. I totally understand what he means about Paris and smoking, I spent all day at Rock En Seine vaguely wanting one. If Richard Ashcroft had turned up, I may have just cracked.

Great to read the rambling thoughts of Morrissey.
Here’s a few less entertaining ones of my own.

  I remember Kristeen at the gig I went to. Confess, I wasn't prepared for such a sound, and unable to block it out with earplugs I retreated to the bar along with many others, who had been resting in the auditorium. Give her credit, though, she's got a voice and plenty of guts to be so different. I'll try again to listen with an open ear, but good luck to her whatever..(you can't please everyone).

Last night I noticed a lovely full moon over the rooftops, the clouds scudding across, glowing, then returning to darkness. The appreciation of beauty takes us out of our own small worlds and into a shared human experience.

I saw the excruciating “download” speech from “V”on youtube. Whilst many bands might simply go “please download this” Morrissey dragged it out over several minutes with a show of great reluctance that would have had the Sanctuary people tearing their hair out. A sweet piece of revenge in my thinking and strangely entertaining in a “headlights” kind of way.

I love it when Morrissey talks between songs. It builds a rapport with the audience and is often very funny.
On the possible Autobiography.. However the rambling style could cause headaches and lost Amazon acreage if judicious editing doesn’t occur. We might end up with a first chapter longer than the last Harry Potter book! Look forward to the possibility anyway…

I can see the annoyance with spelling mistakes. More care should be taken in professional matters.
On a domestic note, as a fellow perfectionist, it annoys me greatly when I find the computer keyboard has been left so it doesn’t line up with the edge of the table… people can be so inconsiderate.

Let’s hope the US tour goes ahead and includes numerous dates. Who knows, Mc Donalds might just go out of business! Fingers crossed for all you American hopefuls.

it's so great to read that when you live in st louis. it's not great that he compares us to mars but who cares? he better not be joking.

What strikes me about his observations when touring, is why don't more fans see him around? I myself went to about 10 gigs in europe and I know many more people attended a lot more than that and were lucky if they saw the tour bus. The way he talks of looking in record shops and strolling through parks, I'm surprised more people haven't been lucky enough to see the great man.

People: Morrissey is the last ever "pop" star on this planet. His style, context, lyrics, opinions, beliefs, records, record sleeves - the list IS endless. If/When he ceases to tour and record who else is left?
I'm afraid we will be left with a world of very mediocre & bland artists - which we all know who they are. I could name a few - but you get the general idea.
To me it's a terrifying thought.

I have a sneaking suspicion that he'd had a couple of beers, or glasses of wine before writing that. But, nevertheless it was distinctively Morrissey; intelligent, impertinent, perceptive, emotional and often quite ebullient beneath the self-deprecating wit.
I know it (stereotypically) makes me just another giggling hormonal female, but every time he posts a new message I can't help but be 'immolated in a firewall of charm'.
It's great to see that the American fans are finally getting what they wanted, but I have a rather selfish message for Mr Morrissey, should he ever read this; please, come back to Sheffield ... I'll show you grime.

From what I saw of the V Festival the band are getting better and better. It will be worth the wait.

I hope the St Louis comment does actually mean he is coming to "the divided states of America" as he calls it. I'm a bit hesitant to start dancing around the room at this point, however. . .hopefully more news regarding the possible tour will be forthcoming soon.

I liked Kristeen Young actually. Im no critic but I thought should could do with a bit more variety musically, though. Still enjoyable I think.

Looking forward to hearing the Morricone piece and hope Mozz keeps up these correspondance. Perhaps he could write a blog? Heh.

I'm glad that he enjoyed Gothenburg, 'cause that was the one and only date I went to see him on this tour.

How lovely to hear Moz relating and expressing these individual private little moments for us. It does in fact sound very much a down to earth communication, as though he had known us all for years. Perhaps the relative frequency of communication in the last year or so has made him feel so much more at ease with sending these little gems out into the ether for us to capture, mull over and generally treasure.

Easily the most exciting aspect of this never less than entertaining 'letter'.

If it goes well, do you think he might consider an album with Morricone (a la Costello/Bacharach?). Or, at the very least, will their collaboration appear on his next album or as a stand alone single like 'Interlude'? And if the collaboration is a one off and it DOES prove to be a triump, might it spur Morrissey to widen the net of his collaborations for the next record?

Anything to minimise the contribution of the currently plodding line up.

I personally think Moz should accept only one contribution (e.g. the very best) from Alain and Boz per album from now on, and look elsewhere for the rest. So, we'd get our 'First of the Gangs' and 'Trouble Loves Me' (e.g. their very best, undoubtedly excellent, work) but wouldn't have to put up with the mountain of mediocrity they offer him these days.

Let this be the signal of a fresh, more adventurous stage in M's career.

Of course it won't be.

One day when the old fella decides to give up music, he could carve himself a truly astonishing niche as a social commentator, writing for, I dunno....the New Yorker or somesuch magazines.
