Hello,
I just found out that Morrisseys concert on Pinkpop, the Netherlands, is aired on this site every evening this week at 20.00h Dutch time. It's the whole concert, just click on Morrissey's image on the page and then choose TV Central. I don't know when the last day is, maybe friday.

  • .... there can be no doubt that Morrissey must be irked by the comparative failure of "the Youngest". After all, he has had this attitude ever since the Smiths days, when Travis and Rough Trade were routinely blamed for low chart placings.

But, there is a difference. Whereas the failure of a song like 'That Joke' IS a genuine travesty, and whereas there have been plenty of worthy moments (in terms of being worthy for chart success) in M's solo career, "Youngest" simply is not good enough. You see, if Moz wants a number one then he should write one - e.g. an undeniable, perfect pop single. Unfortunately, his endeavours are undermined by the fact that the music DOES count, whatever he thinks, and quite frankly the music accompanying the lyrics (which in any case are not Morrissey's best) is mediocre. Morrissey will not achieve a Number One with this current line-up.

As to the "e mail", assuming for a moment it is genuine, there are three very worrying aspects:

    1. Morrissey's reference to "my presence - the music apart". I think it is a consistent failing on his behalf to suppose that greatness can be achieved by the mere force of his personality. Of course this plays a not insignificant part, after all it is what draws us to him, BUT - the music cannot be merely dismissed as window dressing if he wants wider appeal. People want a great tune, something his "bland" (M's own words) seem to find increasingly difficult.

    2. The premise that YHKM was an "unavoidable number 1" - eh?. It worries me if M thinks that YHKM was worthy of the number 1 spot because that being the case he has reduced his standards. "Panic", even "More Yig" were worthy of that, but not "YHKM".

    3. "The band are flying high". No chance of change there then, which for those of us who think Morrissey is being held back by them is bloody frustrating.

Still, it's a toss up as to whether this communication is genuine, though it would not surprise me if it was.

  • Having just watched the pinkpop dvd I have a few questions.

Who feels more important/self satisfied from the experience:

    1. The women he pretends to pay attention to

    2. The men who wont admit to being gay but just want to hold his hand

    or

    3. Himself.

Ywa, your judgement should be as good as his.
