Andy Rourke has been interviewed by Talk Sport (UK independant radio station 1053/1089am) that will be aired on Sunday 8th January on a show between 10pm -1am Monday morning. Tonight on the same station on the Adrian Durham show (he is a huge fan of The Smiths) they played a small piece from the interview. Durham said that 3/4 of The Smiths will be appearing at the Manchester v Cancer show organised by Rourke - Rourke, Marr and Joyce (though Rourke didn't confirm Joyce would be there).

Asked if there would be a Smiths song played, Andy said 'well, there might be 'How soon is now?' - but dont tell Johnny I said that'.

Why not play 'Oscillate Wildly' as you dont need Morrissey there' was the next question.

'Ha ha, not thought of that, that's an idea!' Rourke replied. When asked if Morrissey would be turning up, the reply was 'I dont think so, we didn't think it was worth asking...'

  • yes andy, you and your awful hair.. that's just wrong. The Smiths without Morrissey and especially HSIN? Dear God. It's like the Bible without Jesus.

  • Better than nothing.

And despite how scummy the rhythm section may or may not be, they (and Johnny moreso, of course) had a signifcant part in shaping the songs of The Smiths.

Same with New Order playing Joy Division songs. Let 'em. Fuck it. Moz plays Smiths songs solo.

  • Anyone else think that Craig Gannon will show up?

Johnny certainly can't tackle 'How Soon Is Now?' by himself...

  • This is obvious rubbish and a blatent attempt to get people in by conning them that there is some sort of a Smiths reunion. It has already been reported that Johnny has said NO to any kind of Smiths reunion and that the nearest that will be will be Rourke playing along side Marr and the Healers.

Surely Rourke's comment "But don't tell Johnny I said that" is a little bit of a give away.

  • Nothing should be done to give this smackhead Rourke publicity - I don't care if he personally finds the cure for cancer, he's a smack-addled drug-dependant waster.

Shame on you Johnny and Mike - two upstanding and moral citizens again fraternizing with a junkie.

  • I saw The Smith's in the 80's before all this crap started. I saw them for 12 bucks at The Hollywood Palladium it was wonderful. Pure and without the politics of hate. Andy Rourke's Bass lines superb !
All of them top line ! The Smiths greater than the sum of their parts.

  • Surely not...

  • "I support the efforts of the Animal Rights Militia in England and I understand why fur-farmers and so-called laboratory scientists are repaid with violence - it is because they deal in violence themselves and it's the only language they understand"

"Andy and his new company, Great Northern Productions Ltd decided to group together to raise £1million to fund cancer research at Manchester’s Christie Hospital, Europe’s largest cancer treatment and research centre."

Moz won't support this good cause because he doesn't think it is a good cause.
