Every month, Blender magazine does a segment called "My Music: Our Favorite Stars' Favorite Records." The Jan/Feb 2006 issue features picks by actress, Portia de Rossi (Ally McBeal, Arrested Development). Listed as "The album that makes depression fun [for her]!" is Morrissey's Bona Drag.

Portia explains, "What I love about Morrissey is that his lyrics are just unbelievable. He puts so much humor into them, and I don't how he does it. 'Why do you come here and why do you hang around?' You smile at the depths of depression and isolation and anxiety he feels. His songs are so pretty, but he's singing about the ugliest things. He manages to make it sound like, 'Oh well, that's just the way it is.' I love the theatrics of it all."

  • she likes women. Quite adorable if I do say so myself. Someone please save Arrested Development, it's the only good thing on television these days (bar House of course)!

  • Is there a more beautiful lesbian in the public eye than Portia? Too bad she's with Ellen... wtf?

  • That's a pretty good way to wrap up Morrissey's appeal for me. I wish more people would appreciate his humor.

  • 10 Things I Love About You

    01. How you're always concerned about how I'm feeling.

Worried? Frightened the police will smash your door down and take you in? Nervous in case the child porn on your computer is discovered?

    02. Your commitment to truth--even hard truths.

Even outright lies designed to make her seem more interesting?

    03. Your sentimental nature.

You've only known her two minutes, and spent even less time in her company.
Wait til you discover the REAL Jennifer, the twisted bitch.

    04. The way you're interested in what I'm thinking.

The way she pretends to give a fuck, you simple minded idiot.

    05. Your playfulness.

Urgh! We don't want to know. Really.

    06. Your come-hither smile.

That's not a smile, it's a grimace, it means she's about to throw up again.

    07. The way you tenaciously hold onto your dreams.

    Her dreams?
Does she dream about not being a scrawny bulimic cutter, attempting suicide every five minutes?
    Good luck with that.

    08. Your passion.

    How grotesque!

    09. Your girlish giggles.

The cackling of a vile old hag?
    you're welcome to it.

    10. Your imperfections.

    Now there's a fucking list!
Make yourself comfortable, this will take a while......

  • there is a hardcore punk band from NYC called Kill Your Idols...their summer 2001 tour shirt said "making depression fun again" on the front under the KYI logo...it was a tip of the hat to Morrissey...

a lot of people on here probably wouldnt like them because of the style...but the lyrics are really great...you can tell the singer andy really likes morrissey and jawbreaker...and they have been known to do a smiths song live...

for those of you that might care...

  • You can't jugde anyone based on appearances, but this girl doesn't seem to know what the depression of being an outsider is. What in the world would a pretty Hollywood star find in Bona Drag to appreciate it and understand it?

Depression is not fun; it is the art of making art out of it, singing out of it, that is. This girl in my opinion is only talking through her teeth, trying to sound deep.
