It's not really important now, but the BBC have belatedly replied to my email concerning the non-appearance of Morrissey on the Radio 2 James Dean documentary. The response notes:

"Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'Rebel Without a Cause - the James Dean Legacy'.

I note your disappointment that the programme did not include contributions from Morrissey as billed. Morrissey and his agent had agreed to do the interview for this programme but did not turn up."

So there we are.

  • I adore the man but really if he agrees to do it - what on earth is his excuse?

Thanks for researching that. As it wasn't a live show, it doesn't quite add up that right till the last minute the show was advertised as including Morrissey if they knew he hadn't been interviewed. It's not enough information to stop people drawing different conclusions but it seems like it's all we're going to get.

Clearly someone gained a lot of free publicity by using Morrissey to promote the show.

Was it a *live* show? This would be unusual for a documentary. So most likely someone knew well in advance that he wouldn't be on?

Morrissey cannot be blamed for the use of his name to draw our attention.

I agree completely. How inexplicable that so many fans believe that Morrissey is a "flaky diva" based on a statement from the BBC. Why, if the BBC says it, it must be true! Please.

This is why Morrissey doesn't comment on things, even to "clear his name," i.e. Isle of Wight and Morrissey is a Racist. People are going to talk shit anyway, and he doesn't want to acknowledge that. I don't blame him.

Just another example of Moz fans trying to appear objective and free-thinking by bashing him.

Maybe there is a chance we saw the tip of the iceberg without knowing what was underneath: we learned Morrissey was going to appear on BBC that day from some deceiving source, when in reality something much different was already happening. People suppose here Morrissey pulled out at the last minute, when they don't know if this is what actually took place... I don't think, though, that Morrissey was indifferent to our expectations, fed by these obscure adverstising. But how can you prevent something like this from happening?

    I dunno, it's actually quite funny! ;)

(and let's face it - it was on the BBC. How many of you pay a licence fee? Exactly. It was free.)
