There's a story up on my site about this band blacksmiths.

And LHB points us in the direction of Black Smiths, a tribute band to The Smiths who play their songs in the style of Black Sabbath. Titles have been changed to protect the innocent!

  • I've been a Sabbath fan since I was a kid and I always thought that the Smiths and Sabbath were a lot alike in many ways: Unique frontman, riff-master guitarist, fantastic rhythm section and a lyrics that have a purpose. Both set the trend in their respective genres. Tony Iommi is one of my favorite guitarists as is JM.

  • I found these covers to be very good for that style...

I would be interested in hearing more samples...

  • Interesting concept. Of course, most won't see the humor and liken it to urinating on Jesus' feet.

What's next, Megahootie? (the songs of Hootie & the Blowfish, as interpreted by Megadeath)

I can imagine the songs titles.. "Hold My Hand Grenade" and "Let Her Die."

  • This is really an interesting direction for a band to explore. Planet in a Coma wasn't too bad it's really odd and strange that someone would even thinking of mixing the two.

  • As a concept these things can be interesting. But the actual samples were awful, because the band is terrible. The guy cannot even sing properly for the genre he is supposed to be in. Quite terrible.

  • Slightly amusing. Makes a change from the usual tribute bands.

  • I'm actually surprised about SABBATH's positive reception on this site, as I thought, everyone would either moan about Tony Iommi's moustache or Ozzy making a fool of himself lately on the telly or badmouthing Metal in general, which actually is more than justified in a lot of cases. Good, as 70s era BLACK SABBATH is my favorite band ever after/besides JOY DIVISION and THE SMITHS. When it comes to the BLACK SMITHS, at first I thought about what a cool idea that is, but after checking out a few samples some months prior to this post, I was really disappointed. Not exciting and not even funny at all, I'm afraid...

  • Ex-bassist of the Smashing Pumpkins and really cute (and talented)bassist/singer/songwriter mentions many times that Sabbath and the Smiths are her biggest influences.

  • ...when I heard this post that it would be about an all African American or Black British Smiths tribute band. Not being rude but that would have been more interesting!

  • despite the fact that The Black Smiths tried to put two all-time great bands together, The Smiths and Black Sabbath, it, in my opinion, is a huge disaster. I kept trying to listen to all their covered songs and as hard as i tried i could not find a liking towards them. and for all you pesemist out there, i feel you will all come to agree with me. sorry but the band is a .5 from a scale of 1-10.

  • The squeakers doesn't like metal...it's too hard and too rough. But I do like the new interpretations of the songs. Boucoup concept pts.

  • Curious rearranging, if only to set the original off to advantage! Planet in a Coma is distinctive, if not more congruent with the semi-tragic lyric.
