From the Irish Independant (Weekend section Mar 19), an nterview with DD on the release of his new album SHOTS.

"Shots is the follow-up album to Dempsey's critically acclaimed SEIZE THE DAY ....One of its biggest fans has been Morrissey. As well as singing Dempsey's praises to any journalist who would listen, Morrissey invited the young Dubliner to support him on a US tour last year and to be the opening act on a hugely hyped homecoming show in Manchester. ´HES BEEN GOOD TO ME , ALRIGHT, Dempsey says of the notoriously flinty Mancunian. ITS THE SORT OF CHANCE YOU DREAM ABOUT WHEN YOU'RE STARTING OFF. YOU GO FROM PLAYING TO A HANDFUL OF PEOPLE IF YOU ARE LUCKY TO PLAYING TO CROWDS OF 15000 EVERY NIGHT....I'D BEEN TOLD ABOUT MORRISSEY FOR YEARS AND FRIENDS WOULD TELL ME TO GET INTO HIM. THEY'D SAY HOW GREAT HIS LYRICS WERE. SO I BOUGHT THE SMITHS BEST OF AND I REALISED WHAT I'D BEEN MISSING. HE'S A BIT OF A GENIUS THERE WITH THE LYRICS.

It turns out thet Morrissey thought Dempsey's lyrics were out of the ordinary too- with songs GHOSTS OF OVERDOSES and INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL earning his special seal of approval.

A COUSIN OF MORRISSEY'S, A DUB, GAVE HIM THE ALBUM (SEIZE THE DAY) FOR HIS BIRTHDAY AND HE GOT INTO IT. MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE OF HIS IRISH ROOTS - HIS MA AND DA WERE FROM CRUMLIN- AND HE COULD UNDERSTAND WHERE I WAS COMING FROM. I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THIS UNTIL THE DAY MY MANAGER GOT A CALL TO SEE IF I WANTED TO SUPPORT MORRISSEY IN THE M.E.N ARENA. I NEARLY SHIT MYSELF- 16000 PEOPLE- BUT THEY LIKED ME.

Also the most recent issue of HOT PRESS, with Dempsey on the cover and an interview inside, Dempsey relates a couple of humerous anecdotes about his time with Morrissey. Haven't got it to hand but worth picking up in Tower and having a read and a laugh.

Damien Dempsey´s new album "Shots" will be released in the UK on Monday.

Peoplesound reports that Dempsey is going to support Morrissey on forthcoming gigs in UK and Ireland:

Damien Dempsey's Shots - the follow up to his Irish double-platinum seller Seize The Day – is filled with heartfelt, confronting lyrics. Damien is all set to support Morrissey on various UK and Ireland dates, following their successful US tour in autumn 2004.
