Two of the most influential figures in alternative rock, Morrissey and his special guests Roxy Music are set to play the Nokia Isle Of Wight festival on Saturday 11th June. Morrissey the undisputed comeback kid of 2004 - released his double platinum You Are The Quarry, album last year and was the only artist to have 4 Top 10 hit singles in the in that period. This is Roxy Music¹s first UK live appearance since their critically acclaimed world tour in 2001, Bryan Ferry, Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay & Paul Thompson will perform their potent cocktail of classics.
Morrissey & Roxy Music are joining Friday night headliners Faithless & Razorlight and Sunday¹s REM, Embrace and Snow Patrol to make up an unrivalled line up in the fourth Isle Of Wight festival since the 1970¹s.
Last year performances from David Bowie, The Who, Stereophonics, Manic Street Preachers and The Charlatans drew crowds of over 30,000 along with new bands Jet, Stands, British Sea Power and Snow Patrol.
The festival site is expanding into surrounding fields this year, with an extreme sports village, a unique Bollywood Cocktail bar from the Bestival, and an all new Kids Zone.
The 2005 Festival is the fourth Isle Of Wight Festival since it has been revived. The Isle of Wight Festivals at the end of the 1960¹s were a series of legendary events featuring Bob Dylan, The Who, Free, The Doors, Joni Mitchell, Jefferson Airplane culminating in 1970 with 600,000 hippies descending on the island to see Jimi Hendrix perform his penultimate concert. As documented in the film Message to Love and celebrated in songs such as Oasis "F***ing in the Bushes", the event has played a major part in shaping the music festivals we know today and was the European answer to Woodstock.
Current line up..
Friday Faithless & Razorlight
Saturday Morrissey & Roxy Music
Sunday R.E.M., Snow Patrol, Embrace, The Magic Numbers, Subways & Caravan
More acts to be announced.
