Is this an actual performance or are they just playing the video?

An anonymous person writes:

As said this morning referring to next week's show: "... with performances from Lemar and Morrissey."

Great!

Also, there's a few snippets of info relating to Moz in this month's Q (e.g. he's rumoured to be a guest on Jools New Year show, some of his singles are in the Top 10 Best Singles Of The Year etc. etc.).

  • ...and Moz isn't on it. I remember that Franz Ferdinand are though, yay(!).

  • I hope it's the video...a pointless exercise turning up to mime on CD-YUK

  • He's actually playing. I'll be there with my priority pass tickets. Being a young Morrissey fan has its good points, too..

Have they ever had an artist of Morrissey's years on before?

  • The Smiths mimed on TOTP loads of times; Morrisey has played TOTP solo as well. Surely CD:UK (now more popular than TOTP) is a logical move.

  • Just switched on at 11.30 to find Moz already on screen, standing next to the presenter, looking faintly embarassed. Then it cut to the opening credits. I guess she was just introducing what was going to be on the show but did Moz say anything? Is CDUK repeated?

  • He sounded really good! The band were all wearing their green New York Dolls (?) T-shirts and Morrissey his priest get-up again. He seemed quite amused - he kept trying not to smile at the beginning, and singing to the audience. He also looked like he wanted to throw his mic lead around but couldn't thanks to the proximity of the audience, so he just mimed with his hands, which some rather bemused looking audience members tried to imitate. And the ending was very rousing; it doesn't even sound that good on the album! I really liked it anyway. Then Cat came up to him at the end:
C: Thankyou very, very much Father Morrissey! How are you?
    M: I'm blessed.
C: And what will you be up to at Christmas time?
M: Avoiding Top of The Pops...
To which she blushed and started twisting her hair. Methinks our charming man still has it. (Sorry for the crap and obvious pun.)

  • It was great, really funny. He was laughing all the way through, he looked bemused by it all. I nearly died when Cat deeley actualy spoke to him-Christ! Who'd have thought it? All in all, a great performance though, I would have wet myself if I'd been that close to him.

  • Nothing as entertaining as seeing the CD:UK audience coping with someone like Morrissey especially dressed as a priest. Almost as good as the audience reaction to Billy Bragg on TOTP a couple of years back!

Cat Dealey seemed very excited to have Morrissey and she sneaked a kiss at the end.

  • ooooo, brought back memories of the thorn birds for me!!! It was hilarious seeing those little girls bemused faces, and morrissey obviously finding it amusing seeing nothing in their blank little eyes. Do like that outfit on him, forgive me morrissey for i have sinned....! a good move i feel, this song should be in the top 10 this xmas, keep pushing it, love!

  • That was uproarious, and joyous, I felt! Morrissey was hardly able to contain the mirth, and a laugh escaped a few times at the obvious awed befuddlement in the studio, while the music sounded fantastic. I think a lot went over the heads of the audience, both regarding the song and the outfit, and the cramped stage must have made it ‘hard to walk’ - small when you’re tall! (Still CD:UK is more dignified and professional than the squirm-worthy TOTP, isn’t it, which they can only resurrect now, I hear, by enhancing with archive footage.) The reception he got was affectionately respectful. He looks happy to be home, and no, Moz, success is not a mess – far from it.
