Amy Matters writes:

On Saturday night in the UK there was an hour and a half programme dedicated to the memory of the late John Peel, on BBC2 22:00 - 23:30.

There were many contributors including Johnny Marr and Geoff Travis, the former spoke eloquently about Mr Peel's legacy and his vital role in helping The Smiths to gain popularity, through John's acclaimed Sessions in 1983 and 1986.

The Johnny Marr 'footage' was a mix of recent tapings (in a bar) and excerpts taken from the BBC2 programme 'Young Guns' in 1997 (available for download on this site I believe).

Thought this may have been of interest to those of you who didn't catch the show.

  • I was very saddened to hear the news that John Peel passed. Sounds like he was in paradise, though, so what better way. Please email me at [email protected] if it's possible to send me a copy of the program. I'd be happy to pay something for it.

Peel was a god of radio and his influence will be sorely missed throughout the world in alternative music and radio. My heart goes out to all the English fans who've been so close to his voice all these years.
