Morrissey's "I Like You", from "You Are the Quarry" made an unlikely appearance on BBC 1's Football Focus program today. The song appeared in a Euro 2004 clips compilation, and it would seem Moz has overpowered the usual, awful, dance/techno or mainstream American yell rock to add a bit of class to proceedings.

The track "I Like You" was just used on a BBC footbal show. They were doing a compilation of the 'best bits' of Euro 2004. Interestingly, the "Envy makes them cry" section was edited out and the end section was elongated.

The BBC are using 'I Like You' as the backing track for a montage of highlights from the Euro 2004 football championships. Expect it to be used on Sunday for the Final. The BBC Editor obviously has a wicked sense of humour as when Mozza sings 'we're not right in the head' we are watching the Swiss goalie concede a wayne Rooney goal as it ricochets off the back of his head! Great promotion for YATQ.

Whilst watching BBC's weekly football "magazine" program this Saturday I was pleasantly surprised to hear the producers use 'I Like You' to complement a review of the recent Euro 2004 tournament.

It was played in full and the clips used were in "sync" with the lyrics. For example, "..shove their fat faces.." played as a supporter munched on a hamburger. The best one was "..'cause we were thinking the same line..." and the camera went to a tasty looking girl in the crowd.

Well, there's the video for his third YATQ single sorted out then! And he didn't even have to pay the £2.44 that the FOTGTD vid cost him to make!

  • Yup saw this on Saturday and it wasn't the usual 15 second soundbite, it lasted a good 4 to 5 minutes.
