With the release of "Irish Blood, English Heart" in the United States, Morrissey has come to occupy five spots on two Billboard Magazine charts.

Due to the single's sales, "Irish Blood, English Heart" has made it to #4 on the Billboard Singles Sales chart. This means that it was the fourth best-selling single in the States. Yet, since the Billboard Hot 100 (the official singles chart) is based mostly on airplay, IBEH did not make it onto this chart.

However, it was able to earn a place on the Hot Digital Tracks Chart. The three B-sides also made it onto this chart. The four songs occupy the positions #23, #33, #36, and #39, according to The Billboard Artist Index.

It is also worth noting that The Radio and Records Alternative Chart and the accompanying Station Playlists indicate that airplay for "Irish Blood, English Heart" increased by about 5% this week, making it likely that the song will enter the Billboard Modern Rock Chart next week in the mid-30s.

  • I don't know who JoJo or that Locke person is, but I've heard of that Aching guy. Isn't he from that talentless American Piddle show? How can Americans actually like that rubbish so much that it beats Morrissey and lands in no. 1? Forget the politics of America, the world should hate them for their "taste" in music. You know the taste, like the acid from your stomach in your mouth just after you vomit.

Still at least Morrissey is up there and for that alone I'm feeling better.

goes to show how ridiculous our charts are. you can have the 4th best-selling single in the country but it doesn't make the "official" charts!? which means crap that gets more airplay doesn't necessarily sell. when is some record exec going to make that connection and begin signing quality artists that have fans that actually buy records instead of just listening to them on the radio?

  • Is that how few singles sell in America? Less then 10k? So with 6 times the population they buy 1/10th the singles we do here in the UK!! Whats with that? No wonder the B-side is a dying art, How can radio dictate what a hit is? And I thought single sells in the UK had sunk below belief!

  • still in love with Nu Metal & Nu Grunge and Nu Punk?Morrissey should be in the top 5 but he is even below the chick from Hole.

America has no clue what real alternative is.The most mainstream metal pop and punk pop bands are alternative while real alternative music doesnt exist.I mean Nickelback?hubastank?Linkin Park?God Awful.

  • You are the Quarry has just made it # 1 in the Swedish album chart.

Morrissey's comment: "I want to thank Sweden since you are the first to give me a chart-topper." He takes particular pleasure for selling more than a Fame Factory-artist on third place: "It is an extra victory to beat such simple artists, or whatever you should call them." Fame Factory is a tastless Swedish take on the notoriuous tv-show Pop Idol. Morrissey promises to do something extra on tomorrow's show to celebrate this fortunate event.
