Bobby Bare Jr., namesake son of a Nashville based country legend discusses Morrissey's influence on his own career throughout article in the Seattle Weekly (see link for full story):

"I'm a huge Morrissey fan," announces Bare, who puts a twangy spin on the Smiths' "What Difference Does It Make" on his new solo album, Young Criminals' Starvation League (Bloodshot). "I stood in the front row when he played the Grand Ol' Opry." That said, Bare's ardor does know limitations. "It's embarrassing to stand next to all these kids with tears in their eyes holding up posters of Elvis while throwing flowers. And I know inside, he's laughing. To sing, 'I smoke cuz I'm hoping for an early death/And I need to cling to something!' That's funny!"

  • This clip is amusing only because it is so weird. I admire this guys admiration of Morrissey but we owe it to one another to banish all country music from the planet. Country music that is a Morrissey cover is still country music and should still be burned like disco albums at 1970s White Sox games.

  • Bobby Bare Jr's band isn't really country. Maybe alt-country, I suppose, or sort of Replacement-ish. I don't like them all, but they got some press in the modern rock mags.

  • This sounds weird!
Me and a friend once were at a Reagga-party (very drunk) and we sang the whole night Moz-lyrics over the slow beats ... it's the same kind of weirdness!

Don't rake up my mistakes, I know exactly what they are!
  • You guys crack me up, just like when everyone attacked Ryan Adams. Morrissey knows how bad the music scene is in America. No one is doing anything remotely artistic these days. It is the same old shite. I have been turned off of the Rock/Pop Alt/Rock scene for a long time. As Morrissey says in the Dave Fanning interview, name 5 people that are doing anything worth a shite. I can't, but the Alt Country scene has some great artists, who are doing just that, writing artistic songs and playing their instruments well, very well. I think you people are really shallow. And if you had any sense of music you would realize that Alt Country and the songs on Bobby Bare Jrs CD is far far from country. There are some immensely talented people in the scene and they are doing things the way they want to. Independent labels, touring by their own means for the most part. Playing to smaller venues, that pack them in and they are in touch with their audience. I went to Bloodshot records and listened to some of the other songs on Bare's new solo CD and it sounds very good. Bloodshot has a handful of great artist check them out at http://www.bloodshotrecords.com/bands.php3?bandid=33

I don't work for any of these people, just a fan of some of the music. And to laugh at someone because of the way they look is completely rude. I am ashamed to think this is how most Morrissey fans act. I have listened to Morrissey for 14 years and hate to think I am part of the same group as you shallow assholes. Bobby Bare Jr's CD is fresh and artistic and I could go on, but you won't listen to me it doesn't matter. I hate how people hear a little twang and say oh god that is country. Yes I agree all Nashville country should be burned. But most Alt Country artists are so far from Nashville country, you can't lump them together. I downloaded a song of Bobby Bare Jr's and I am listening to it for the third time now, it is great. so stick that in your ass.

  • People who say nothing new is happening in music must have their heads up their butts. The latest Trail of Dead CD is AWESOME, Grandaddy's "Software Slump" from 2001 is AMAZING, Queens of the Stone Age's new single is kick ass, and Elvis costello's "When I Was Cruel" is great too.
