New Times LA | Music: Hot Child New Times Los Angeles September 19, 2002 Excerpt: Last Friday Hot Child checked out the Morrissey show at Arrowhead Pond, where His Chinfulness opened for Mexican tame-rockers Jaguares. ("Hola, Los Angeles!" Morrissey shouted, looking precisely like a cross between Elvis and Quentin Tarantino. "We is Morrissey.") The overwhelmingly Latino crowd sang along to oldies and listened with loving attention to new songs such as "Mexico" ("If you're rich and you're white you'll be all right") and, I believe, "The First in the Gang" ("[Hector] was the first in the gang to die/Oh my"). The latter is one of the most beautiful L.A.-inspired songs I've heard in years, and rhymes "stars" with "reservoirs."

black people discriminate each other (to me they are the most racist) based on their own skin color as well. i've met a lot of black men who have admitted to me that they would never ever go out with a black women who has very dark skin because "it just looks too ghetto." they've told me that they would prefer to go out with someone of my sking color (tan) because the babies will come out light skin. also, listen to all those rap songs and listen very carefully to what they say about other peoople.
and yes, morrissey is right. "if you are rich and your are white, you are alright." anyone who has been to beverly hills will know that this is specially true. you are treated with a lot more respect if you are blonde and with a gucci or louis vuitton bag. remember kids, morrissey has traveled the world and has visited more places probably than most of us will visit in our whole lifetime. he knows what he is talking about because he has lived a more intense life than we have.

Saying white people and black people already get along does not mean every single black and white on the face of the earth get along. It means most do. Yeah there are a lot of racist blacks out there but most aren't. It is an unfortunate fact of life that every group is "known" for it's worst elements. Blacks are knows from their thugs, whites by their rednecks, blah blah blah. But most of us don't fit in those categories and we get along fine.
Listen pal I'm gay. If I spent even one nano-second obsessing over whether this one or that one is treating me "differently" I'd be in a mental hospital. I don't take chit off anybody and if someone tries to give me chit I attribute it to rudeness, end of story.

I listened anxiously a couple of weeks ago one of the last songs penned by Morrissey called the Last of the Gang to Die, mentioned in the above article.
After such a long time without hearing from him and being a devoted old fan (since back in 1986) of course I was nervous and excited to listen to some new material, unfortunantely to say the least oh truly disappointing...
I know people out there tend to love everything that comes from him nowadays but let´s face it, I expected much more from Morrissey to be quite sincere, what´s the point of a man in his mid 40s singing about mexican gangs in LA? and with such a superficial view over the theme?
The arrangement didn´t help at all and sound very much like his last songs recorded during the Maladjusted period and the lyrics are absolutely weak that even a teenager could have done better.
A pity that he himself is not in his late teens anymore, at that time inspiration could be noted abundantly. Maybe is time for the last of the gang to finally die from superstardom and recreate himself as a singer and as a composer, just look beyond kids, Mr. Andy Rourke is a fine example of a low profile musician who´s been playing actively and still able to maintain dignity of former romantic years.
I just say this because it annoys me enormously to see people worshipping him at his feet without any kind of critical sense and I say what I say here simply because I want him to be in a much better position.
Hector go home.
Complaints? I´ll be happy to discuss them.

Would you rather hear Morrissey's lyrics all plain and shit. like oops i did it again. At least he writes about concerns facing Mexicans, and Latinos as a whole. Which shows his appreciation for us. The more people show their racist side towards his lyrics the more they make sense.
