Morrissey declared 'Loser of the week' in News Of The World

MyMelody writes:

After seeing Morrissey's stunning gig at the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday, I was baffled to see him declared 'Loser of the Week' in Sunday tabloid, the News Of The World. Even more so, because they declared him it for slagging off Jarvis Cocker!

It reads,

'Oh so modest Morrissey has blasted Pulp's frontman Jarvis Cocker.

In case you didn't know who Morrissey is, he used to be a member of a miserable band called 'The Smiths' from way back when... oh I can't really remember.

Anyway, he claims that he never listens to Jarvis because he 'can't sing' and is not 'a patch' on him.

Mate, as one of your old songs goes, 'What difference does it make?'

As a huge Pulp fan, I can forgive Moz this outburst. I find it extremely funny. And I think the real loser of the week is the columnist Rav. Get back to reporting on Britney and Beckham!

It reads no differently than any random posting or comment on this site. That person doesn't speak for the entire magazine and even if he did, we could just turn the author's turned comment back on him: "What difference does it make?"

Constructive criticism is one thing, but to sensationalise one throwaway comment such as this typifies these kind of publications. Anybody who wants decent news and enlightening articles wouldn't buy this rag anyway. I remember The Sun commenting on Morrissey's "failed comeback bid" at Coachella in 1999. The News of the world is basically the "Sunday Sun" - enough said.

So, beware. If you go around the world telling other people that you're a tabloid columnist, they'll think you're a loser.

The point is that the News of the World isn't a magazine, it's the biggest selling newspaper in the UK. However people read it for football and tits and celeb scandal and porn outrages (as long as they're detailed). So everyone who read it already knows this columnist is probably a total wanker and his silly opinion worthless. It even looks silly even if you never heard of Morrissey. At least it told a lot of folks that Moz is back in town.
