Just after 4pm today (Friday 22nd February 2002) I was going about my usual business of doing not much in Marks and Spencers in Altrincham. I was pushing trolleys and such like but as I was gazing around I saw the unmistakable shape of the big man. I swear to God, he was wearing a long black fur/suede coat, blue flared jeans with little white flashes on the back of the knees, black suede shoes and a green checked type Kangol beret. I double taked to make sure it was him but after staring at him for about another 5 seconds I was sure. I ran over to a colleague and she verified that it was indeed Steven. He is now sporting a set of rather fetching square ended sideburns and he was with an older woman, who I would guess to be his mother but can't guarantee that. Within 5 minutes of first seeing him I was now nearly foaming at the mouth with excitement and was telling anybody and everybody who would listen, most didn't listen... uncultured swines. But the aforementioned female colleague was now nearly crying and begging me to go and get his autograph or just do something to acknowledge that we had recognised him. I regret I did nothing, although in a way I'm glad I didn't because if he was out shopping with his mother then respect his privacy. Anyway, I was called away to do some 'Collect by cars' (the M&S shoppers amongst you will understand). I managed to catch a final glimpse of him as he was leaving up the stairs to go back to the M&S car park but with that, he was gone. I consider myself very lucky to have seen him in the flesh, although spare a thought for an aging customer who was heard saying "I didn't recognise him without his daffodils..." Well, quite.

Was it you that compared Will Young to Morrissey in the Metro Newspaper, Scotland on Friday, 1 March 2002:

"Who would have thought a lisping singer with a large chin and bushy eyebrows could top the UK charts? Will Young is obviously trying to be like Morrissey, the original and best moon-faced singer. Morrissey even writes the words and music for his songs, did not have hyped mass publicity behind him, and still only mamaged to reach number five in the charts. I doubt Will will be recognised when he goes shopping with his mother in 20 years' time."

I think the sailor suit on the last tour was all we needed to confirm his coming out. This along with some of the changed lyrics to the songs (especially Hairdresser on Fire). The sheer fact that you guys would suggest he would wear Faux is hilarious; that would be kind of like parodying the suffering of animals for christ's sake :P Give the guy some credit! I'm surprised the guy who wrote this article didn't give him a musket and a davey crockett hat too! You poor, poor people, outside of front row concerts I've actually met Morrissey, and in actuality, he was a squalid little man, wearing a canadiana beachcomber's toque and a long black trenchcoat :P He had this smug little face, and puffy red cheeks (as if he had just downed a bottle of scotch with the boys).
But oh well, Buffalo was a great show, not as good as Toronto or Hamilton, but what the heck!

  • I can verify that this story is true - how do I know? Because I was walking through Manchester city center today, and who do i spot on the other side of the road?? You got it, El Moz!

He was wearing a brown suede jacket with those bits of string hanging off the arms, tight Wranglers, a big stetson and cowboy boots that almost come up to his knees. As he walked past, I saw he had a Bon Jovi patch sewn on to the back of his jacket.

Unlike the other guy, I had the guts to go up to him and ask for his autograph. Whilst he was writing it, I asked him about the proposed tour and the new album. He said there were no plans to tour just yet, but an album is in the pipeline just as soon as he gets a deal sorted. I asked him what the album would be called, and I think he was impressed by my cheek, so he said it has the working title of "Rodeo Blues". Then he smiled and went about his business, but not before loudly yelping "YEEEEEE-HAAAAAWWW!!!" and firing imaginary guns at me with his fingers.

Sounds like he has a new direction, and I for one can't wait!
