Adam Ant was interviewed this morning on the LK Today segment of GMTV, Britain's most popular morning TV show, and made an interesting comment regarding Morrissey and Boz Boorer.

Ant was promoting his upcoming 'Retro Revivial Tour' of the UK featuring various (pitiful) 80's bands/artistes, such as Heaven 17, T' Pau etc and mentioned that a certain Boz Boorer would be playing with him on the tour. Here's the part of the interview I found interesting and which seemed to imply that Boorer is no longer working with Morrissey, with Ant issuing a threat to Morrissey because of this?

Adam Ant: "... Boz Boorer an old mate of mine who plays with Morrissey, or used to play with Morrissey. Morrissey if you're watching, look out..."
Lorraine Kelly (Interviewer): "Well, that's him told!"

  • Why on earth would Morrissey be watching GMTV??
It shows the level which Mr Ant has stooped to, if he has to promote on this dreary programme.

  • I think Adam Ant was just making a friendly little joke. God, I doubt he was serious. I'm sure he wasn't aware that someone was watching and going to pass the message onto morrissey-solo.com, where some uptight people with sticks up their asses will take him serious and make a stupid comment.

  • and it certainly didn't seem as if Ant was joking. If he was, the joke was lost on me and the interviewer, who took the comments quite serious. He made a point of correcting himself, saying Boz "used" to work with Morrissey. Having said that, it could very well have been 'in jest' as the person above commented, with Ant threatening to steal Boz. But how can he steal Boz when he's already said Boz isn't working with Morrissey anymore?...

  • As Morrissey hasn't recorded anything or toured for 2 years then what is the difference between Boz saying he's working with Morrissey and saying he's not working with him? There is no work. It makes no difference. Its been 4 years since the last album.

Boz does seem to be putting it about though - I was watching Jools Holland last Friday and the reggae band Dreadzone were on - I could be wrong but I'm sure their guitar player was none other than...

I have to say though, Adam Ant??!!
Ridicule is nothing to be scared of..

  • From what I know, there's quite a lot of work coming up with Adam for Boz, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be up for working with Morrissey again IF he EVER decided to do some more...... You can't expect a busy man like Boz to wait around for Moz to get his bum up. He's not only working with Adam, but with a million people at a time, and Morrissey is only one of them.

As far as Adam Ant goes - I think he was just being silly. I really don't think Adam would issue an open threat to Morrissey like that.

I'm certainly not taking this seriously. But if it is true...well, Morrissey can always find someone else to work with. I'd miss Boz, but at this point and time, I don't care who's in the band...I just wish Morrissey would record again.

  • Adam Ant certainly hasn't had an overabundace of new material and his latest offering is a rerelease of the first album, which only saw the light previously on an independent label. So maybe Adam is just warning Morrissey that he intends to retake his title as the king of british pop which he hasn't held since 1983. I belive Adam was just showing a little self-effacing sarcastic humor. "Desperate But Not Serious"

  • ADAM ANT WHO? It's more like what has that old guy done lately . He sucks really bad I think he is way overrated by people. The Smiths were better than him in the 80's and Morrissey is better than him in the 90's and whenever Morrissey decides to come out with an album he will be better than Adam Ant in the year 2001. Now for Boz I think it would be no big loss Moz can find someone else to play with him. TO be honest I would rather see him write songs with Johnny Marr again, but I know that won't happen. I would personnally love to see a Morrissey and Marr tour. Boz is just one man and can be replaced , so it doesn't matter . There is lots of talented guitarists and songwriters to be had.Having said all of this I hope Morrissey comes out with another album soon and does tour , I do deep down wish it could be with Marr but I know it won't happen.

  • I mean, I think both Boz and Alain have written some pretty decent tunes over the years. But I think juding by the last album, he really could do with a breath of fresh air on the music front. A lot of those tunes were starting to sound like re-writes of previous songs they'd written. Be nice if he would musically take a few more risks.

I always thought it'd be nice to see Moz collaborate with someone who's got a similar status and profile to himself.

Moz should take take a leaf of of Mark E Smith's book, start changing his band every 1-2 albums!!

  • If you think about it, the Boorer, White, Cobrain, Day think has been utterly poor. Ok, i can't do better, but Morrissey certainly could have. It's been a wasted decade for quiffy, 'King Leer' OMG :( I'm sure if Morrissey decided to do an 80's revival he could pull in better musicians than Adam Ant. Think Bernard Butler is busy again i'm afraid. I'm not saying the OBVIOUS one because it just isn't going to happen people.

Morrissey+Pet Shop Boys, camp electronica, could be interesting. They're in the same vein of musical interest lyrically i think. Something needs to happen now though, Morrissey needs to play the musical market a bit, do some collaborations, get back on Jools Holland. I'd rather see him with The Rythm+Blues Orchestra than Borrer+co anymore. It's just become too poor :(

Maybe the era of fixed bands is over by now, times changed, just changed. And it would be great for Boz to develop his music and career playing with lots of people.

I admire Boz's efforts to keep his fan base happy.....He's playing solo acoustic gigs...He's actually keeping the Moz fans abreast of any news. Play it Man!! Also, this is one fan that bought his Polecats material and that would buy any solo albums.

Moz should worry.........because, pretty soon, the only "musician" that will be willing to work with him is a Casio keyboard hooked up to a Radio Shack PA system......

Vauxhall and I is argueably Moz's best Solo work.. Your Arsenal, is good as well, excellent in fact..

I don't see how you are all bashing him.. Seroiusly, that's pretty shitty, considering he is more active with Morrissey fans than Morrissey himself is..

It seems to be Adam Ant was saying it in jest.. Since Boz played on his new album, kinda like he stole Boz from Morrissey..

That's what makes sense to me anyway..

I don't really think that bashing of Boz is needed though.
