Sooo...

...REM were good, I liked 'em. I've forgotten most of it, but here's what I can be bothered to say...

Stipey wore his fetching blue make-up, of course. (At the end I noticed that a lot had rubbed off on his hands.) He started off with a nice respectful speech about London; it was touching. Then they played 'Everybody hurts' (my absolute favourite), and, get this: I cried. I didn't think it would be possible to cry with the crowd there, but I was ashamedly brushing the tears off my cheeks. It was pretty because I think EH is the song that everyone relates too, everyone understands it, so I think they were all touched too.

A lot of the songs I didn't know the words to, and even if I did I didn't feel inclined to sing along. I always get the idea that if I sing along, I won't hear myself, but the person in front can probably hear me loud and clear bellowing into their ear. So I restrain myself.

The only thing is, the atmosphere was a little tepid. Also, I could not see, being the little shorty that I am. So I was on tiptoes the whole time, and afterwards my feet hurt. And they kept making a big deal out of the fact that we have a football team. (It’s not about the football, it’s about the music, maaaaaan…) He even came out wearing our football shirt, and it looked really tacky. Pffft.

The support acts? Idlewild and The Zutons. Idlewild, poor sods, got a terrible reception. Well, terrible in the fact that everyone was so…indifferent. I think this is probably because all of their songs sound the same (no disrespect). The Zutons were grrrreat; everyone was loving Abi with her barefoot-minidress-wearing-saxaphone-playing style. Jealous.

So, all in all, it was a pleasant experience. I was hoping that Morrissey would make a surprise visit, so that I could get my Wight performance I was promised, and I could also demand my money back. Then, of course, we would get married. But as he didn’t turn up, I’ll wait ‘til I get to a Moz concert…

  • Never liked the Zutons much.
And I'm fairly sure Abi has a moustache not that there's anything really wrong with that.
Do you want to hear a joke?

"So my flatmate came home really late last night and I answered the door in my night dress and he said, "That's a funny place to keep a door.""

    Sorry.

  • yeah their music is'nt very creative but they have some fucking great lines like "i created myself to be on my own, but i did'nt expect to be alone" or "maybe you're young without youth or maybe you're old without knowing anything's true" so i forgive them.
I saw R.E.M at isle of white and and he had that make-up on there to, can't say i understand it.
I know there was a gig in london but i did'nt have the money to go, is that the one you're talking about?
