Where's the reference to Moz? Do I need to listen to all 30 min?

I'll never understand! What do southern americans have in common with southern Europeans? I happen to be European and I'm baffled! Why are these terms used?

Is it really so hard to understand these terms??? I am not of that decent but I understand it quite well....Can't imagine anyone needing an explination...I'm also not European or Asian and I am fully aware of wat it means....

I can see a lot of parallels just in terms of Moz's personal situation- growing up Irish in Northern England-- the history of immigration and colonial politics and struggle there-- with the Latino population at least here in LA, where I've grown up. But that's only been generally known since the 90's and Rogan's book (which I still refuse to read, for Moz), and recently sung about by Moz (enter Moz into cultural identity struggles...discuss!).

Morrissey being an iconoclastic Catholic, second-generation, having one's own mind about archaic traditions, class struggle and ever-questioning about love and loneliness would bind a whole lot of people to him, but especially Latino men and women, I suppose. *But* not necessarily because of ancestry, I think, though on a subconscious level from Moz to audience, this common dual identity undeniably exists (even for me, as an Asian Am and Catholic). But that's not what we're all thinking when we're singing along at a show (at least up through Vauxhall and I). It's just that LA's gen-Xers are grown up now and a lot of people in that generation in LA happen to be Latino. So he sings about the vicar in a tutu (yes we all smirk, but especially the ones who have to sit in Church every Sunday) and being spanked in Catholic school, hey, so a lot of us relate. "Young, married couple in debt, ever felt had?" Why, yes, we have.

Plus, all the record companies are in Burbank (north LA area) and all of us 80's kids listening to KROQ during that wonderful time (sadly no longer the renaissance it was, sniff) absolutely adore England. So, yeah, you have goths and punks here because the music is also here, and the kids living here happen to be whatever they are by skin/ancestry, but the identity we all shape, is totally out of our own passions. All of a sudden, because Morrissey is white/European, people turn their heads when they realize a lot of us are not. We were always here, but somehow we just seemed more invisible before. Why is it an issue now? Perhaps just because press followed Moz to LA when he moved here and they never knew in the first place how diverse we truly are. But we all love Moz just the same. We've always been here, Smiths to now (okay I do see some new fans at the shows, which is great and surprising).

But one more issue to discuss: Rodney Bingenheimer deserves a better spot on KROQ. He deserves a primetime spot every night! If it weren't for Rodney, LA would not know Morrissey. ('Morrissey who?') Okay, I'll step down from my decrepit professor's podium now.
