Kewpie sends the link to the thread in the forums started by joe frady (via Morrissey reddit):

Morrissey to do 'Desert Island Discs', etc.

Janice Long just played the new single, and then mentioned that if you've got a ticket then she'll see you at the Radio2 gig on Wednesday night (I don't Jan, but thanks anyway). She then announced that Moz will be 'doing' The One Show, Desert Island Discs 'and lots of other stuff'. No specifics on dates, but obviously sometime in the next fortnight would make sense, certainly for The One Show (this could very well be car crash tv time)

But, at last, Moz may be gracing Desert Island Discs with his prescence, alongside the fragrant Kirsty Young. Moz probably thinks it's still Roy Plomley hosting it. He's in for a shock...

Kewpie also sends the note by prisoner77 in the forums, XFM Ian Camfield show will be on Feb. 13, not the 10th.

  • For any non-Brits who don't know what Desert Island Discs is (any Brits who don't: shame on you!)...

    a quick description.

Basically, the guest goes on the radio, is interviewed about key moments in their life/career and plays a segment of a number of favourite records.

At the end, because these are things to take on a desert island you understand, the guest has to choose a book to read whilst 'stranded' - they are not allowed to choose the Bible (or any other religious book for that matter) or the Complete Works of Shakespeare.

They can also take a luxury.

It might not sound much, but it's brilliant.

Thing is, it's not on the "Listen Again" service on the BBC's website due to legal wranglings... so listen to it live.

  • Somehow, I can't picture them asking Moz any interesting questions. Christine will probably ask him about being a vegetarian, and pugface might ask him about his baby. Then they will go into one of their segments about the increase in binge drinking, or an endangered ant species in Darlington, and then it MIGHT get interesting....

  • I never miss the One Show. Just for Christine. She's gorgeous! I'd be surprised if she was a Moz fan though :-)

  • Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie talk to Morrissey and he plays tracks from his new album as well as some classic hits.

As soon as someone such as Joe Frady hears the date of the transmission, it will be posted in here.

Just keep watching BBC 1 The One Show.

If you buy RadioTimes which will list the details of the both programmes.

Stern gives YoR a glowing review. I have translated the short piece. The whole record has been put on their site too - hessy:

First with the Smiths, then solo, he has had a critical influence on British music. His new, excellent album “Years of Refusal” is released (in Germany) on Friday. You can hear all songs now on Stern.de.
“I pray that you like it,” announced Morrissey dramatically at a listening session in London to which only a handful of journalists were invited. As far as those in attendance were concerned the prayer seems to have been answered since they gave the record the collective thumbs-up. At which point there was no need to praise it to the heavens since the ninth solo album was so opulently, so typically Morrissey and yet, also, so unusual. The opener “Something is Squeezing my Skull” is an astonishingly muscular rock song with an reek of sweat and back stage beers about it. With “I’m throwing my Arms around Paris” Morrissey comes dangerously close to capturing the sound of his old band so that the clamour for a reunion is sure to endure despite all announcements to the contrary.
Morrissey has again worked with Jerry Finn who also produced the acclaimed “You are the Quarry” and who, tragically, died after the recording having suffered a brain haemorrhage. The singer himself describes the album as his best work, which mat sound a little over the top but, despite all refusal and doubt, he might just be right.

  • I wonder which records he'll choose to take? Whittling them down to 8 will be difficult. He could always do a Norman Wisdom and choose mostly his own songs!
