I just saw on the Swedish music-television show "Musikbyren" that they'll be airing a Smiths concert from 83 on the 4/10. (I think you can read more about it on their webpage).

This is really something to look forward to because this program is great and usually show the entire concert.

They also mentioned that The Smiths was a favourite among the staff which was nice to hear...

True friends stab you in the front.
  • dear Lina, this is amazingly good news and on behalf of of the Dutch tributeband Small Town Playboys from Amsterdam, which will be performing october 26 for the first time, I would like to ask you to please record this on VHS! It would be great then if we could forward you a postal address and you would be able to make and send us a copy of the concert, just to inspire us for our performance of Smiths songs. If this is not possible then no matter, I'll be informing with the tv station and hopefully also with an old friend from Holland who moved to your beautiful country several years. But if you do succeed we would be very grateful and will dedicate a song to you! Thanks for now, if you like to get in touch: [email protected]. Bye!!!

  • Great News! According to the info on their website, it's going to be the gig at the Assembly Room in Derby 9. Dec 1983. I'm looking forward to that!

  • Several sources,I checked my books, including The Smiths Visual documentary by Johnny Rogan. Don't be put off by that. I quote:' The Smith's performance at the Assembly Rooms, Derby is filmed by BBC's The Old Grey Whistle Test. Highlights include a sparkling version of 'This Charming Man',Morrissey insisting 'I think I can rely on me' during 'What Difference Does It Make?', a near instrumental 'Miserable Lie' and strangled vocals on 'You've Got Everything Now'. A stage invasion ends the set prematurely, forcing the programmers to run part of the song sequence in reverse. For many, this was the first proper viewing of The Smiths on the small screen and several of Morrissey's school friends are astonished to see their shy contemporary flailing across their televisioin screens. Despite the inpact that this show had, Marr was very critical of the gig and embarrassed by the group's appearance.'
Set List: Handsome Devil, Still Ill, This Charming Man, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Reel Around The Fountain, What Difference Does It Make, Miserable Lie, This Night has Opened My Eyes, You've Got Everything Now, These Things Take Time, Hand In Glove.
Oh, and an other thing, the show seems to be from the 7Th of Dec, instead of the 9th.

  • I mailed SVT over a year ago, telling them to air something with Moz or Smiths. Finally, something's happening!
