At mojo4music.com David Gray has been asked to submit the albums that he likes most. When reviewing the Waterboys This Is The Sea, he says that 'They played for about two-and-a-half hours, then started doing covers and jamming. I'd never seen that before. I saw The Smiths and it was great, but there was no passion about them.' The cheek of it.

  • David Gray obviously doesn't realise that you need to be a decent artist to have an ego. His head must be getting sprinkled with miracle grow to get this big.

  • It wouldn't surprise me if David simply saw Morrissey's aloof manner and didn't "get it." He probably did not understand that he was in the presence of a genius.

  • oh god im going to his show, what a fucking loser, he just doesnt stop mentioning how much smiths or moz do lack something.

now i really dont want to go to his crappy show and if i do im gonna make a note to tell his country ass to stop riding off smiths and moz

its so funny how he has been trying to make a "hit" for like 7 years and now that he has 1 he has enough ego to talk shit about his teachers

"dont forget the songs that made you smile, and the songs that made you cry, yes your older now and your a wiser ? but they were the only ones who ever stood by you"-moz

  • absolute nightmare character from hell.

he should be given an award for managing to stuff the highest number of clichés into his appalling, queasy listening songs.

he is from wales but you'd never know, listening to him sing.

hey dave, some people have the integrity, sincerity and, yes, passion to sing songs in their own native accent instead of pretending to be from somewhere 5000 miles away. perhaps you should try it one day?

    neil o.p.

    • i myself hate the stupid little idiot who has a very odd head tic and crappy lame ass songs, but i have to say that it might not be his fault if he doesn't sing with a welsh accent! loads of people sing differently to how they talk, and it probably doesn't come out in his singing voice. not a particularly valid reason to attack the man i fear, and also why the hell should he 'pretend' to be from anywhere else??? it's not as though welsh people have much of a stigma attached to them these days, look at msp, super furries, etc, etc. in fact i can imagine loads more bands pretending to be welsh as opposed to denying the fact to make themselves more interesting and marketable! does james dean bradfield sing with a welsh accent? no......and it doesn't make him any less patriotic!!!

I have two of David Gray's CDs. I think they are both extremely good. Who cares if he thinks someone else sings passionately? You either like his music or you don't. He is much more of an "artist" than almost anyone else on the radio.
But, then again, he did mention Morrissey in a slightly negative way, so maybe I'll throw out those CDs and decide not to go to his show. And tell me one thing about David Gray that is "country."

  • "Fame, fame fatal fame, it can play hideous tricks on the brain, but still I'd rather be famous than righteous or holy any day any day any day". To put it like this:

    Morrissey = Famous
David Gray = Righteous AND holy (trying to make up for the fact that he's total untalented by saying The Smiths had a lack of passion. Righteous AND holy - oh boy! I wonder if November spawned David Gray!)

As far as Gray's sound is concerned: I don't mind it, however it is a bit diluted if you ask me...I prefer music with passion.

  • David Gray was born in Manchester in 1970.

He moved to Wales with his parents at the ripe old age of nine.
