Kray plot where gangland killer will be buried next to Ronnie

THIS will be the last resting place of Reggie Kray - reunited in death with twin Ronnie, brother Charlie and their parents.

It will be the first time the family has been together since Reggie and Ronnie were jailed for life at the Old Bailey 31 years ago.

A space has been left for Reggie, who died on Sunday, next to the grave of his twin who died four years ago aged 61.

On the other side of Ronnie's grave lies elder brother Charlie, who passed away in prison last April aged 73. Six months later there is still no headstone.

Ronnie's headstone is black marble with gold lettering, bearing the words: "Legend Ronald Kray. Never to be forgotten."

An old black and white photo of Ronnie on his headstone - a formal pose, his hair immaculate, his glare forceful.

Bless

The plot containing Ronnie's grave is marked by dead flowers, left there about two weeks ago.

In front of their graves at Chingford Mount Cemetery, Essex, is the last resting place of their mum Violet and dad Charlie.

The killer twins and Charlie Jnr paid for a modest black marble memorial after Violet died in 1982 aged 72. Their father followed the following year aged 75.

The tribute says: "In loving memory of our dear Mum and Dad."

Beneath their names are words specially chosen by Reggie: "May you both rest peacefully. Our love and memories are always with you. May God bless you both."

As well as his brothers and parents, Reggie will be reunited in death with his first wife Frances who died of a drugs overdose in 1967, aged 23.

She shares her grave beneath a large white marble tombstone with Charlie Jnr's son Gary, who died four years ago, aged 44.

There are thousands of graves in the cemetery but it was almost deserted on the day Reggie died.

A few couples were paying their respects to recently departed parents and an elderly grey-haired woman tended the grave of her late husband. But no one went near the Krays' plot which lies in a corner of the cemetery which is full of broken and damaged headstones.

For those who hero-worshipped the Kray twins, the cemetery will now be a place of pilgrimage.

But first celebrity gangsters, actors, and East End tough guys will trail here in their thousands to bury a vicious killer like a movie star.

His funeral is set to be the biggest ever in the East End, even surpassing that of Ronnie. There was a 13-mile procession for the twin, watched by an estimated 50,000 East Enders.

Twenty-six black Daimlers took mourners to St Matthew's Church in Bethnal Green, the heart of the Krays' manor. Among those paying their respects were Sixties gangsters "Mad" Frankie Fraser, Freddie Foreman and Tony Lambrianou, EastEnders star Patsy Palmer, Minder actor Ray Winstone and ex-Chelsea footballer David Webb.

Those sending wreaths included Barbara Windsor, ex-Who singer Roger Daltry and pop star Morrissey.

There was also a wreath believed to be from the American Mafia. Next to a photo of Manhattan was the message: "In deep respect, from your friends in New York."

Ronnie's coffin was carried by four pallbearers - brother Charlie, Freddie Foreman, club boss Johnny Nash and family friend Teddy Dennis.

Cancer-stricken Reggie's last wish was for ageing villains to carry his coffin. Foreman, Nash, Joey Pyle and Wilf Pine who all visited him on Sunday for a final farewell, agreed to the request.

Foreman said: "The last thing he said was he wanted us to be his pallbearers. He said, 'Nobody but you is to carry the coffin.'"

Plumes

His body was taken yesterday from the honeymoon suite he occupied with wife Roberta at Norwich's Town House Hotel.

Reggie was moved to the premises of Bethnal Green undertakers English & Sons.

He will be laid out in one of his favourite made-to-measure Savile Row suits.

Final arrangements for the funeral have not been disclosed but it is likely that Reggie's body will be carried in the same glass-sided hearse used for twin Ronnie in 1995.

The hearse was pulled by six black horses with elaborate plumes.

Former East End hardman Dave Courtney - the model for Vinnie Jones' debt collector in Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels - arranged security at Ronnie's funeral, but will leave it to others this time.

"I'll definitely be there," said Dave, 41, "but I won't be getting involved this time. It was a big event and brought me a bit too much attention."

Like the funerals of his brothers, it is expected that Reggie's cortege will take a route through favourite Kray haunts, bringing gridlock to East End roads.

For those who feared - and those who idolised them - the Kray Dynasty is finally gone. But definitely never to be forgotten.
