Trees and cats don't mix

03:16 PM

I am so bummed. Katie just got in the Christmas tree and the whole thing fell to the floor. I purposely avoided putting glass bulbs on the tree this year, as last year I learned my lesson. She had broken at least five ornaments over the course of the season.

Ah, but I put my favorite ornament in the tree this year... what a mistake. My porcelain Grinch just lost his head when Katie brought the tree to a crashing halt upon the hard wooden floor.

Super glue has saved the day. It was a clean break. But, I am still sad, as this was my most treasured piece.

  • I'm assuming Katie is your cat and not the neighbourhood dwarf constantly being arrested for breaking into homes and stripping naked before rubbing her fanny against christmas trees for kicks and giggles. Anyway, if so I can commiserate. See, I too once had a cat who would ceaselessly knock over the christmas tree (no matter how brilliantly bolted down it was) and yes, I've lost some rather cherished ornaments as a result.

Ah, but we do still love them though, don't we? The cats of course, not the dwarfs.

  • Years ago, I found both an aesthetic and safe solution when I found some lovely round ornaments which were made of hard plastic balls wrapped in red threads of silk.

Indeed, our beloved playful companions inspire us to improvise safe alternatives during the holidays - and sometimes all year 'round. ;)

  • At least not my standard one this year. I have put up a little fibre optic tree and fibre optic church, as last year, my 2 babies went crazy and knocked the tree over nearly every day.
