Mother's wise words

01:50 AM

My mother always used to say, "If the spirit moves you, then do it."

I love this little pearl of wisdom. To me it says that we must embrace opporunities to use our creative energy, when we are feeling compelled to do so.

I have done a lot of writing today. The birds will start chirping, as the sun is due to rise ~

But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

~ Robert Frost~

  • I wish my mom had had glistening pearls of wisdom like that for us kids. All our clams had rough cautionary stones embedded inside.

    • Look both ways before crossing the street.
    • Don't talk to strangers.
    • Don't pet strange animals.
    • "Don't swim after eating or you'll get cramps and drown"
    • "If you stick it in there too far, you'll hit your brain."
    • "You keep making that face, and it'll freeze that way."
    • "Eating burned toast will make hair grow on your chest."
    • "You'll go blind!"

Seriously, though, it sounds like good intuitive advice...and not at all steeped in pragmatism. :)

  • Sounds like you had a pleasant mum. Mine seemed to be more of the philosophy, 'if the spirit moves you, you'll get a smack on the head.'
