Changes...

05:20 PM

As many of you know, I have been on a real downer these last four months. This is apparent from my writings in my journal and my posts in others'. Last summer, I started to come out of my shell and become more social. Things were looking up. Then I lost my brother. This was a major set back. After his death, I started taking Ativan. This drug, combined with the lovely hormone estrogen, has made me feel very weepy these last weeks. I saw my doctor today. I am cutting back on the Ativan, with the goal of stopping altogether soon. It is a depressant. So while it helped me cope with the racing thoughts, after my brother's death, it also has made me feel depressed. Also, it has whacked out my sleep cycle, turning me into a vampire -- up late then sleeping late. This is not good.

So, I took the plunge. I started taking Prozac this afternoon. I know, I know -- I am not a big proponent of meds. But, I am willing to give it a go and see if it helps. It will be about a month before I notice any positive results. In the mean time, my hormones should drop soon and I hope to get off the Ativan.

So... Here is something positive for now:

TEN THINGS THAT I AM GOOD AT

~Communicating ideas
~Conversing
~Driving a boat
~Knee Boarding
~Cooking
~Kissing
~Making people feel good about themselves
~Teaching
~Coordinating colors
~Diplomacy

  • That's quite a varied and interesting list of things at which you excel. :D Kneeboarding in particular. I've always stunk at watersports (cos' it was so hard to do!), so anyone who can do that good earns a hurrah from me.

I noticed one of the listed gifts was making others feel good about themselves, and I beamed knowingly, having already seen evidence of that one myself.

There's something I thought of related to that item. Most people are quite familiar with the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." And there are many who actually uphold this as their credo.

Because I tend to be my own worst critic, and I often befriend others with the same tendencies, I devised an important but oft-overlooked companion to the Golden Rule. Do unto yourself *at least* as well as you do unto others. :) You did unto yourself a good thing by enumerating your talents. May they grow ever more apparent.

    Cheers!

  • I think you have LOTS more things you are good at and if you can't remember I can remind you!. I totally agree that you have a knack of making people feel good about themselves.
