high on life

10:58 PM

I just had the best time that I have had in a very long time. My son got home from 'Teen Night' at the Nad, at about 11:30 PM. He took a shower, then asked me if I could download the song "Boulevard Of Dreams" by Green Day. It was late, but I thought what the hay! So, we listened to it. Not bad really -- simple lyrics but a catchy melody. Next thing you know, I am turning him onto some older Green Day tunes, then Simon and Garfunkel, Neil Diamond, Led Zeppelin, The Cure, Moz, The Smiths, Gordon Lightfoot, Helen Reddy, The Killers, U2, New Order, Belle & Sebastian,... . We were singing and dancing around like maniacs. Then he wanted to hear Linkin Park's, "In The End." I put it on. Ah ha, I couldn't believe I knew all the lyrics still. Then all of a sudden, I thought I heard the doorbell. I turned the music off. The bell rang again. Oops! It was now 1:30 in the morning. It was my neighbor. She was woken-up by my music. Wow, we must have been really loud, as I live in a duplex with very thick walls.

Anyway, talk about having fun. I really did. The best part about being a mom is sharing my knowledge and passions with my son. It makes all the fighting and mundane, day to day stuff bearable.

Well, the doorbell signaled the end of our party. I printed the lyrics of "Boulevard Of Dreams" for my son, then tucked him into bed. Yes, he still likes to be tucked in. Thirteen is such a wild age. He is growing-up so fast, but he is still my little boy.

G'night sweetie.
G'night mom.

  • How sweet........That must be such a lovely feeling---I know if my mum does anything like that i feel really good-Im 16 and wouldn't mind being tucked in every once and a while!

Keep it up----Kids really apreciate that stuff-even if we say we dont.
I know that when my mum takes an interest in Morrissey or The smiths-Even Elliot smith it makes me feel so good.....and like she understands.....oh i better shut up now!

    Cheers
