I'm not the man you think I am...I am a poor freezingly cold soul...I have just discovered that prudence never pays. Now, we must wait for the right time

And I was looking for a friend of mine

07:09 PM

I've become a lot more pro-active in the last six hours. With my mother being laid low with the flu, I took it upon myself to phone in my dinner, wash my own plate, and make myself two cups of tea. I even managed to pour my mother a glass of Irn Bru without causing too much of a fuss. A welcome addition to any relationship, I would be.

I went down to the local social club to watch the big match today, and Scotland didn't flatter to deceive for once! A hard-fought 1-0 win over the mighty Dutch (who are apparently the fifth best footballing nation in the world, according to the FIFA daft rankings) means that we can dream on for another four days at least. It was a well-worked goal as well, with James McFadden and Darren Fletcher (the best Scottish player in fifteen years, no?) making Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Phillip Cocu look rather daft.

I didn't drink alcohol today though, resorting instead to the wonderous Irn Bru. It's now been seven days since my last taste of alcohol. My friend asked me to go out tonight, but I opted out of it. I can't break my anti-social streak. The only reason I went to the social club to watch the game was because it was the only way; I don't have Sky, y'see. I wore my "Unknown Pleasures" t-shirt to the social club today; sadly, the only Scotland shirt I own is the white/purple/red effort, circa 1993, and even although I'm still a wee lad, it wouldn't quite fit...

I've spent this evening deciphering my way through this database. I think it will come together soon; I've got the basic framework there, so hopefully when I meet with the rest of the group on Monday, some real progress will be made. I'll even send you a copy, if you ask nicely, and you can see how great our work is.

  • Irn Bru? Definitely a Scottish thing. Truly bizarre stuff. and how do you pronounce the name?

Great performance by the Scots. The Welsh did well too. Hopefully we'll see you in Portugal. Its funny, six months ago we looked certain to qualify but now its all in the balance, we haven't won in 7. And you looked up the creek, but now you're on top of the world. Its odd how things change.
