"I've seen this happen in other people's lives and now it's happening in mine", - it can go both ways, both good and bad, I have had both.
We went out to dinner last night. It was cool and crisp outside. I mentioned to my son and daughter that I had a wonderful time with them. That I valued it because we never know what will happen (they got my inference that I'm older and time is different for us). I was extremely grateful. It was an amazing day with the family. Earlier in the afternoon my daughter and I practiced emergency braking in the car. We just worked on getting up to speed and then slamming the brakes for quick stopping. Next we are going to tackle emergency braking while turning to practice avoidance while loading the suspension so she knows what it feels like.
On our drive home I thought about the trip I just took with my daughter. It was amazing. Freezing temps, sunny skies, backpacking part of the PCT, hiking, photography, sea kayaking and caves.
It is funny how the holiday worked for us. When we asked the kids what they wanted to do for Christmas break each kid wanted something different. My son wanted to go to Japan (for Pokémon stuff) and my daughter wanted to explore. So my wife and I split it up so the kids could do what they wanted to do. She took our son overseas and I took our daughter on an adventure. Comparing my youth, I did not know I could be so close to people.
