Now last night's show was my very first Morrissey concert, so maybe I'm not really qualified to through my opinion into this argument, but the people in the area where I was seated (or rather standing..)
were into every single song! I saw people on either side of me and in the rows in front of me, singins along to nearly every word, dancing (well, dancing as best you could in that sort of venue), and cheering
as soon as each song began.

I believe that the reason so many people cheered so loudly when they played Smiths songs is because it's somewhat unexpected...Or at least it was for me. Going to a Morrissey show I expected to hear only solo-era stuff and it was a happy surprise to get to hear some Smiths songs played as I was too young to have seen them play live. But the thing is I was over joyed just to see Morrissy play anything!
