Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
Stone Roses - Fools Gold
Billy Bragg - A New England
The Clash - Rock The Casbah
REM - Fall On Me
Sugarcubes - Mama

No Smiths or Morrissey, so as not to sully the "other music" thread.

Cameo! That's not a name I expected to see around here. :) Mind you, I loved them at the time (although less so now). But I might have chosen "She's Strange" or "Single Life" over "Word Up".

I have a feeling that when Morrissey made his incredibly well thought-out comments about black artists on Top of the Pops, Cameo were probably exactly the sort of thing he was objecting to.

I made a mistake though, because I need to include Sunspots by Julian Cope. I can't decide between bumping Cameo and bumping Joy Division.

I'm not sure if this list is for songs released in the 80's or that were created in the 80's. I'm gonna go with songs created in the 80's....

* "Wonderful Woman" by The Smiths

* "The Missing Boy" by Durutti Column

* "A Night Like This" by The Cure

* "Happy Lovers At Last United" by Morrissey (I think it was created in the late 80's.)

* "Domino Dancing" (extended version) by Pet Shop Boys

* "Snap" by The Smashing Pumpkins

*"A New England" by Kirsty MacColl

*"Quiche Lorraine" by The B-52's

* "Elton's Song" by Elton John

* "True Faith" by New Order

* honorable mention.... "Cannons" by Siouxsie & The Banshees
