just like the thread title says, what/which/who do you feel will be 'big' in 2008?

I would plump for Laura Marling

The new Franz Ferdinand album will most likely be out this year, so hopefully that will be big.

I'm about to lose control hearing something of the Manchester bassist
    trio

Rourke, Mani, and Ian Brown I thought

Oasis has a new one scheduled for this year also, or did it already

further I'm always interested in Brett Anderson, is he coming with
new material, a new band, or gonna work with the Suede guys?

and wacko Jacko Jackson is gonna rlease some new songs [and going
on tour with his bro's, I wonder how the public treats him after the courtcase]

it's about time the Manics put out some new work, same for Richard Ashcroft

well I',m all Brittish focused I see, well Jackson not included, but thats mere a mega event, and see how it works out with Micheal, does he
still have it in him, or did the courtcase ruined him physical as well

Did the manics not have an album out in the last year or two? and the verve have an album coming out in 2008 so that'll be occuping ashcroft's time.

as michael jackson was my childhood idol i am compelled to buy and appreciate everything he does, and so am looking forward to the new album and (hopefully) tour that will preceed. however, i am sure that the tour will be posisbly the biggest spectacle for ticket touts that has ever been - i mean, it is michael jackson.

From what I hear Frida Hyvönen is releasing a new album this year, all she's done so far is brilliant so I'm expecting it this time as well.

The Ting Tings will make the biggest splash imho - saw them at Homoelectric recently, enjoyed them. But as for record sales?

Probably the direness that is The Wombats.

Would love to see Salty Lips get some success.

    EDIT: Los Campesinos.

Maximo Park although doing pretty well must surely break real big this year. One of the best live bands I've seen in a long time.

Also Sydney's 'Red Riders', definitely deserve some recognition.

He's working on 2nd solo album...

I like the bands Bernard Butler is producing now, especially Cajun Dance Party and Cut Off Your Hands.

Whoever becomes big, I hope they will do good music, I can't stand listening to shit songs on the radio.

    I have two:

    the 1900s

    and

    Ezra Furman and the Harpoons

Ezra Furman is really, really good. He has great stage presence, sounds a little like a cross between Gordon Gano and Bob Dylan, only better. And he's just 21. He's so stinking cute all I can think when I look at him is that his mom must still love to kiss the top of his head. And he is a Smiths fan (but not a Moz solo fan, he says he's never heard any solo stuff [??!!!]) He's set to do a few nights in NY soon, and then will be playing at SxSW. I've seen a lot of young bands lately, and I can't believe how few of them look like they even want to be on stage. These are bands that are basically paying money out of pocket to exist and play for us, and most of them look like they don't care at all for what they're doing. Like they don't believe in themselves. Ezra is there, with all of whatever he has, and he makes you care that he's there too. So watch him.
