Wild Beasts

How do we feel about Wild Beasts? They have been compared to The Smiths, and I can see why even though they're as different as they are similar. I think Morrissey would approve of the song "Woebegone Wanderers" from their first album which is a very strange song indeed about footballing.
I love the ghostly warbling chorus of "who are ya" at the end. As I said, I'm sure The Moz would approve. Have you heard of them? Do we like?

Unstable stands aflush with fans
pilfered pies and pints in wobbly hands…
in the bowls of the bar two boys spar
don’t flinch an inch and territories marked

Oh I’d swear by my own cock and balls
and the family home’s four walls

There’ll be no treason this season.
The players they bask.
The boss he basks.
Just win the big match it’s all I can ask.

Darrell my son the bastards won
we’ve been lumbered with losing life for far too long…
the ground groans like the belly of a sleeping whale
don’t flinch an inch you’ll be released on bail

Oh I’d swear by my own cock and balls
And the family home’s four walls

There’ll be reason for treason this season.
The players are slack.
The boss has been sacked.
Just win the big match it’s all I can ask.

Woebegone with weeping
that sets you down to sleeping…
please canary, please be wary
the pit of a man’s heart is dark and scary

Oh are yer yellow with cowardice?
Or are yer yellow with jaundice?

A slap on the arse from my baby,
the hiss and the sting
and the mark of a ring
and the cold reality.

Who are yer? Who are yer? Who are yer? Who are yer?

Like them & listen often! It's the lyrics that draw me to Moz (among other things), and I am often impressed with theirs. I mean check this out:

Carry me hooting and howling
to the river to wash off my hands
of the hot blood, the sweat and the sand
Any rival who goes for our girls will be left thumb sucking in terror
and bereft of all coffin bearers

especially that last line ...and this in a kind of dancy-boppy tune; nice juxtaposition (another thing I love re: Moz). The musicianship is top-notch as well.
