Re: Johnny, Johnny, oooo - ooooo

'scuse the Prefab Spout Subject header. Johnny, have I enthused in your direction about Irma Thomas? "Two Winters Long" is a perfect record and is sung with such soul that I'm welling up inside just thinking about it. I'm sure you have that one in your Northern Soul collection, yes, no? Do you have fave NS records?

You can call me whatever you like Tingle. I am still basking in the glory of being caled a bitch recently Who would have thought it ?.

Northern Soul can be a minefield and it is impossible to know all the songs that are deemed classics.
I am not familiar with Irma Thomas but I always make a written note of other peoples recommendations.

I have SO many favourites.Off the top off my head

1)Sweet Sherry - J.J Barnes

2) Gotta Have Your Love - The Sapphires

3) Be Young,Be Foolish Be Happy - The Tamms

4) Fried Tomatoes - Just Brothers

5) Playing Hide and Seek - Eddie Regan

6) It'll Never Be Over For Me - Timi Yuro

I'm in work at the moment so I will change my mind by the time I get home

Well get up off the wall.. And start writing your enigmatic (nonsense stuff again).. haha.. Serioulsy, I enjoy your sensible dissetations and objective opinions when the going gets a bit tense! You're like the 'Judge'

Sounds like I could've written that, Ruff. Y'know, from experience.

Hey, that's credibilty.. isn't it? I'd love to have written that tune (do you remember the Pogues?!).. that's another anecdote, when we saw the Pogues in Brixton, we were actually in Electric Ave and almost sparked a race riot. At the time it wasn't funny.. but we've dined out on the day we took a bloke called Tall Paul out with us. And it was the last time.

I tell you you cahrming fellow.. come to Bexley and enjoy the local hostelries sometime. We've got roads, streetlights and everything Thanks to Ted.

> You old phoney.

Wasn't 'Phones' in Stingray? Must be the Fab Cafe scifi expereince having it's effect.. I am vaguelly remembering the post pistols group featuring Cooke and Jones.. The Professionals? 'are you a punk, are you a skin, are you a mod, or are you just faking..'!! Might be my tune!

Keeping watchin' and learning' my Scottish mentor! I'll make you proud one day!

Oi Ting, where's the dialogue in this song lifted from..??

Re: Steve McQueen

You kiddin' me Ruff? "Goodbye Lucille #1" off the Steve McQueen LP (Tenuous Morrissey Connection).

Or am I not getting your drift?

As great a song as that is.. (the best Prefab tune arguably) I was more curious (and being lazy I suppose by asking you and not looking it up) about 'Spring heeled Jim' and the dialogue running through the song. I seem to recall a film called the London Boys? Or something.. Just wanted to know more about the film. If anyone know.. you must!

Re: Steve McQueen

Are you thinking of 'We Are The Lambeth Boys'. Ruff?

According to Johnny, the dialogue is taken from a real-life police tape of an interview (or something). I know Johnny talks rot a lot of the time, and this may well be another example of his numptyness, but if anyone can confirm he is, for once, telling the truth, that would be great.

True to form, Bluebles, Johnny, as usual, is talking out of his Edinburgh-dwelling arse.
I remember this from a few months back (as spongeheads do) and Almodis had all the info on it.
It's from a movie made by some off-beat German director who died last year and it was mentioned in his obituary in The Guardian.
Cannae remember his name though (typically of ageing spongeheads)but I'm pretty sure our arts correspondent (Almodis) can help you out.

As always, your willing servant,

He had a point. I was in a coffee shop last week with a young lady who must remain nameless;)

There was 2 blue-rinsed old dears next to me and one of them was complaining that because her grandaughter was born 3 weeks prematurely she was born in an NHS hospital..
She confided in her fellow geriatric "It's the first NHS baby we have had in 3 generations of this family"!!!!

It wasn't the Queen was it?

Re: Spring heeled Jim

Sorry Ruff, I clearly was the worse for the ol' Budvar on Saturday. I didn't know anyhow.

You can see the excellent Link that lists Morrissey-related filums. It says "We are the Lambeth Boys", as It think Bluenose said. Looking at the list, I'm wondering what visitors think when they see the title 'Leather Boys' when brousing my video collection......

Oh, and "London Boys" the title of a song by a glam-rock star who died in a car crash - I'll not mention the name of his band because it winds someone up.

Re: Spring heeled Jim

Oohh, what a fantastic link. Thanks Tingle. There are a few on your list there that I am still trying to track down. I love the original movie poster images.

I have had a few eyebrows raised at my copy of 'The Leather Boys' too. Especially as I taped it off the telly and so I suppose a handwritten label declaring the title must look a bit dodgy.

One film I managed to find through Amazon z shops a few months back was 'Sparrow's Can't Sing' starring Barbara Windsor. Have you seem it? It's brilliant.

As I'm off work today, I think I'll go and pop one those 60s gems on.
