What's wrong with calling black people black? or white people white? That's what black people and white people call themselves. Morrissey, who now prefers 'African American' (which sounds like recent Tanzanian immigrants to me), has often called black people black.

I've always wondered...

What can you call them if they are of British nationality?

Today's Lesson

> What can you call them if they are of British nationality?

Think about it for a minute....if someone is British, they are British. Therefore, you would call them British. I know, it's so difficult intellectually.

WELL, I AGREE AND I DO NOT SEE THE TROUBLE ON CALLING BLACK PEOPLE BLACK. WHAT'S THE MATTER??? MAYBE MORRISSEY CAN TELL US, DON'T YOU THINK ???? BEST REGARDS...

"The cops went down in British Harlem and knocked around a few Brits who were minding their own business."

"He wasn't hired for the job because he was British."

"John Singleton made another film exploring the problems of being British in modern society."

BET: British Entertainment Network

Instead of the "Def-Comedy Jam", it's now called the "Eh, Wot? Comedy Hour."

I need to say that you are a tiresome bore. Let me get out my violin. Who really gives a s*hit about the difference between "Black" or "African American?" I am half Mex/White, but I could care less if you call me Hispanic, Caucasian, Mutt, Dickhead, whatever. Don't you know that this whole race issue with Morrissey is SUCH OLD AND BORING news??????

I JUST BELIEVE THAT RACISM IS OFTEN IMPORTANT TO BE REJECTED, AND I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT MORRISSEY, CAUSE I DON'T KNOW IF HE IS OR NOT. WE ARE HUMAN BEINGS AND THAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT, DON'T YOU THINK ???? I'D LOVE TO BE YOUR FRIEND !!!! BEST REGARDS... SOMNIUM

Strange thing about that is unless there is more than one John Singleton he's not English.

Wow !!!... This is a Moz Moz world (LOL). Dearest Mozpistol (silly, isn't it?) ... You should save your energies to do something more constructive, and you should know that a sentence is just a sentence, nothing but a sentence. If you want to say something, just be polite and beware with this vulgar language. ... BANG BANG.

What's wrong with calling everyone either Duncan, Clifford, Bob and/or Mary.

But on a more serious note, I don't think the problem lies within the actual words themselves it is the why and how they become defining characteristics and the context and instances in which they become predomimantly used.

For instance White is very often in many situations taken as being the norm, it is rare for a white person to state they are so, where as black is used more frequently, and I feel in many cases making the distinction that someone is black or asian or whatever is actually a euphemism for "not white" or other, not the norm etc...

So as I have said it's not that using the terms black and white are offensive it is how and why they are, sadly, frequently used.

Re: I've always wondered...

You'd probably call them white.

Unless, of course, they're not.

As an aside...

I think the Bonzo Dog Band summed it up perfectly with their song "Can Blue Men Sing the Whites?".
