Not the saddest thing ever, but a nice juxtaposition between an uplifting tune and a thought provoking lyric dealing with the death of Tim Booth's mother.

I really like the video too, although it left me with a craving for Shredded Wheat.

Skeeter Davis - The end of the world
The Carpenters - Goodbye to love
Jeff Buckley - Lover, You should come over
Vera Lynn - It hurts to say goodbye
Terry Jacks - Season of the sun
Sandy Posey - Sweet dreams of You
Petula Clark - Kiss Me goodbye

Bright Eyes- Lime Tree

It's just incredibly beautiful yet cutting. A perspective of abortion from a father's position.

Consider yourself lucky if you think of it as home
You can move mountains with your misery if you don't
If you don't

Powerful stuff.

So pleased with a day dream, now living's no good

A personal favourite

Not properly a 'song', but one of the saddest pieces of music I've ever heard and sung. Beautiful

^^^^^ In that case, I'd like to add Jacqueline du Pre (& Ernest Lush) interpretation of Handel Oboe Concerto # 3 in G Minor - Grave: (sorry the clip includes the allegro as well)

Very nice!

The song starts playing at the 9 second point,

"Strangely Drawn" by Echobelly

"Falling Flame" by Echobelly

"I never chose to be this way, to be alone
There never was another choice, there never was
As the rain pours down, washes out my thoughts of you..."
