Thewlis, of course they're amazing, but at least in UK no one calls them shoegazer.
    Don't count them in.

I know, but they gave birth to the genre, more or less,
so I count them in :)

Cripes, it took ten responses for someone to go with Ride? Dang. I'm with beau. In my opinion they're so far and away the best I can't even think of the runner-up.

    Chapterhouse???

Do you know at Reading 92 (or was it 91) Chapterhouse came on after a certain Seattle band. I was there.

My highschool band was called "Drive Blind". Ride was the first foreign band I saw live therefore, they will always have a special place in my heart. I hardly ever listen to them these days. I think I might put them on right about ... now.

Cocteau Twins, also. Even though Moz despises them, I could care less.
I love them, ever since I heard the song Whales Tails.

I've never seen anyone call Cocteau Twins a shoegazer band before.

As beau and Very Moz commented, Cocteau Twins are not shoegazer band.

    It's good to remember Chapterhouse.

    what is a 'shoegazer' band?
(I know Slowdive & My Bloody Valentine's music though, but I've never heard anyone call 'em 'shoegazer'. So..it's kind of dreamy?)

I hate everything shoegazing. All that fucking apathy. Along with "post-rock" (how fucking makey-uppy does that sound?), the shittiest sub-genre.
