for RIFKE , my beloved blue flower ~
i like this collection of duets, ketamine, and i did not know about the collapsing newly constructed buildings' cover of sand. i've added it immediately to my new playlist. i can also see that there is a tradition of duets sung by disenchanted couples, but whereas hazelwood&sinatra kind of inebriatedly try to dwell in nostalgic memories of the early phases of infatuation, staples&rosselini have both feet on the ground, trying to hurt each other by stressing the other's naiveté. there is still more entanglement here
wow cool. Never judge a record by it's cover, wasn't expecting this sound when it started. Immediately thought of 70's Motown and the Stax recordings, the big sweeping strings and the drum room sound from those Isaac Hayes records.Like it when the song stretches out and he goes off on a scatting tangent, sweet.
which made me think of this song....(just the end part)
in another post you wrote you didn't know Walkers earlier recordings, which surprised me, people usually don't know or care to know his more recent work. 'TILT' from 95 is to me his best, seems to me what he was always (consciously or not) working towards all through the late 60's on. 'TILT' an amazing record. But he has a large body of work over the years and if the records are not great as a whole there are still a lot of priceless gems on each one.
these and the song above are from his 4th solo record ' SCOTT 4 '
1969
The Angels of Ashes
Will give back your passions
Again and again
Their light shafts
Will reach through the darkness
And touch you my friend
They'll fly in a mind dance
And blind you with wings
Wrapped in flame
If you're down to an echo
They just might remember
Your name .......
You'll lose your way
A boy child rides upon your back
Take him away
Through mirrors dark and blessed with cracks
Through forgotten courtyards
Where you used to search for youth
Old gets a new life
Reach out you can touch it's true
He's not a shadow of shadows
Like you, you see
Hearts hold on holding
If you stay one, you'll stay free .....
this ones from 'SCOTT 2'
1968
........
Her sailors stained her cobblestones
With wine and piss and death desire
And sometimes blood for Madelaine
Whose laughter was the night
Her girls would lift their dresses high
And breathe the stars and kiss the sky
She'd smother them with whispers then
Embrace them with her sighs ....
Though you may have already heard these before. For the Walker Brothers records I think it's best to just find a couple decent compilation records.
If the establishment won't listen now, will they ever?
Minor point of criticism, it is so relaxed, the establishment might fall asleep if it isn't already.
How wild is the Wild Turkey?
Thanks for lettin' me know Ketamine. I never knew who Scott Walker was until I heard about Tilt. Then Drift and Bisch Bosh. That's my favorite stuff. I like some of this earlier stuff to, so now I'll be uncovering gems along the way.
