What do you think of "I Ex-Love You"

I think it's great. I really enjoy it. People say the bassline and some of the guitar sound too much like This Charming Man but I don't think so. I think it's just got that really fun upbeat Motown underbelly like Please Help The Cause Against Loneliness. It's like Motown-jangle pop.

The lyrics are smart without being intellectual and the whole song has that great deadpan-with-a-wink thing that he does so well. It's funny and sarcastic and relatable. Great melody. Love the slight lyrical callback to I've Change My Plea To Guilty, too.

I adore it.

As I wrote in the gig thread - not much.

Hopefully this is one of those tracks that sounds better on the studio version, as to be honest - this really isn't very good. Musically a re-heated 'Please Help The Cause Against Loneliness', only with less interesting lyrics. Morrissey sounds fairly tuneless and bored as well, especially in those wordless 'hmmm hmmm' bits.

I have found some of the 'Bonfire' tracks encouraging live, but this isn't one of them, and seems closer to B-side drek like 'Kerouac's Crack.' If the record deal had gone through and this had been released as a single, unfortuantely I can't see if getting any radio airplay or setting the charts alight

Some of you seem to have ex-remembered what a good song sounds like. This Charming Man?! He f***ing wishes. This is a new low.
The MOZIBrigade trying to will this into being a good song will not work (like most of the MOZIBrigade). Even Johnny Marr couldn’t turn this dog-shit into anything listenable.

I liked brody's comment on the tour thread: that it sounds like a Herman's Hermits b-side (though I would say an a-side). I think it's very good, but given Rebels Without Applause I'm dreading the studio treatment. Julie In The Weeds is another song that I think has a quaint 60s-pop feel; unfortunately it was smothered by an oppressive arrangement and production.

When I first heard it this morning I thought it was ok, now after listening to it a few times I'm not keen and think it's a bit boring. I may change my mind when I hear the recorded version though. That footage makes me cringe, the keyboard player looks like she's typing a memo and what the f*** is going on with Jesse, his facial expressions are utterly ridiculous.

I enjoy it and think the studio version will be better with it all balanced. It’s lighthearted and uptempo. Guessing it’s about all the musicians who have proclaimed publicly how disappointed they are in him now. Thank you drop dead indeed though I guess the lines in the others mouth now

From the songs we already know from Bonfire, it seems to be cooler than Veronica, but even Telephone seems much more interesting and catchy .

Light-hearted jangle to balance out the more heavier stuff on Bonfire like the title track or Oblivion.

I respectfully disagree. I just enjoy the song. Has nothing to do with hiveminds or brigades. There are several songs of his I do not care for (not many, but several). But this one I think is a winner.

I think that vibe might be part of the songs theme. He probably feels the people denouncing him are doing so in a flippant trite manner and made the song about them in a similar vein

One of the better "bonfire" tracks in my humble opinion.
