But sociologically speaking, trying to quantify political leanings only seeks to essentialise what is the 'correct' left/right, authoritarian/liberal position. And how do they work out where those political figures stand?

Maybe I'm thinking about this too much, but it's kind of dumb.

I consider myself an Independent leaning towards pure conservatism; not to be confused with the current state of the Republican Party.

I just want the Government to stay out of my life and off my back.

Please don't start the issue of what comprises a true fan.
That's been done soooo many times.
