Westlife split up

After 14 years and 14 UK number one, thats right FOURF***INGTEEN, Westlife have announced they are splitting up (albeit after a greatest hits compilation album and a farewell arena tour. And the inevitable reunion with Brian McFadden in 2018)

While I was obviously saddened by this news that the Irish "stools" will be no more it did get me wondering are their chart achievements in 14 continuous years unprecedented in the history of the (British) charts.

Also how did the record company manage to ensure their career lasted for 14 years. Most boybands have a shelf life of 5 years max. How did they manage 14 years then? Did they sell to different generations of pre-pubescent schoolgirls? If so the world that record companies reside in is a very very creepy place.

Anyway hooray
