Nazareth are a Scottish hard rock band, founded in 1968, that had several hits in the United Kingdom in the early 1970s, and established an international audience with their 1975 album Hair of the Dog. Perhaps their best-known hit single was a cover of the ballad Love Hurts, in 1975. The band continues to record and tour.

Elton John is the epitome of 70s music to me. Rocket Man was first released in 1972 on the album Honky Château.

John Lennon - Post Beatles, very early 70s

Jealous Guy is from Lennon's second solo album, Imagine, released in 1971.

Anybody remember where they were when they heard Lennon was shot? I do. I was standing in front of one of our floor speakers in our den, in Akron Ohio, when it was announced over the radio. That was my first breaking news of a celebrity's death. Tragic. :( The next one that stands out is Kurt Cobain. I also heard the news of this death on the radio while driving to work. Funny, I don't EVER listen to the radio any longer.

Great pick! My favorite Lennon-solo song. I was at my friend's house, watching MTV, when Kurt Loder broke into a video with the news that Kurt Cobain was dead. My friends & I were all shocked. We were big Nirvana fans. Later that night I went to my Dad's house and walked over to the pond, on the north end of his property. It was after sunset and I stood at the edge of the pond thinking about Kurt Cobain. Then I felt something on my feet, and I looked down to see a skunk walking across them. He just trudged across my feet and disappeared into the darkness. I jetted back into the house and listened to"Nevermind" on my walkman. It was a sad day for a lot of people.

Re: Welcome to the 70s!

Carpenters were an American vocal and instrumental duo, consisting of siblings Karen and Richard Carpenter. During a period in the 1970s when louder and wilder rock was in great demand, Richard and Karen produced a distinctively soft musical style that made them among the best-selling music artists of all time.

From Wikipedia: Daryl Hall & John Oates, known more commonly as Hall & Oates, is an American musical duo composed of Daryl Hall and John Oates. They achieved their greatest fame in the late 1970s and early to mid-1980s with a fusion of rock and roll and rhythm and blues styles, which they dubbed "rock and soul."

Re: Welcome to the 70s!

my list was missing someone that helped define 70s pop music here in the USA and one of the first "women of rock"
who, sort of, did her own thing
ronstadt-linda-5104ce18980b5_zps951c89ef.jpg

Linda Ronstadt  I remember both my parents playing her records and its weird, her wonderful voice has stuck with me all these years later
& since I am rebuilding my music collection on this computer, many of her songs are making the cut, such as:

You're no good
It's so easy
Blue Bayou
Tracks of my tears
When will be loved
Long Long Time
Hurt so bad
Just one look
Crazy
Ooh baby baby

& she has many great duets, her voice is truly incredible, couple of duets I have so far:
All my life
Somewhere out there
Don't know much

Back
Top Bottom
