Trying to prove a point with the record companies? Boosting low morale? Memory tasks to keep dementia at bay? Reason for mugging off Perth?

All possibilities in the M world.

Morrissey

No one (except you) gives a toss about historic chart positions.

Stop cancelling gigs on a whim with no explanations.

You're impressing no one, especially not record label bosses.

PS Alain Whyte's setlists are putting yours to shame.

Maybe it's fair to say that chart positions after 2004 or so really don't mean that there was any meaningful impact on the wider culture?

This post that has a strange finality to it, like he's correcting the record for posterity. Listing only the UK and US chart positions gives the impression that he isn't much fussed about anywhere else and I'm not sure that's the message to send out in the middle of a tour, but hey.

Maybe once he started compiling this long list, he decided finishing it was more important than performing the gig.

I hope him releasing it on Central offers some consolation to disappointed concert goers.
Or maybe he thought the Perth ticket holders would find this list of chart positions more comforting than any explanation or apology for the cancelation?

Not again. Songs that imply he has no interest in these type of things are contradicted by his actions.

In terms of impact on culture, the chart positions are pretty meaningless. It's the extent to which radio stations played the songs. So I Forgive Jesus was a top 10 single, but no stations played it so hardly anyone beyond the people who bought the album knows it.
Spent the Day in Bed, however, was #64 but picked up tons of airplay (for him), and most people who listen to vaguely indie stations know the songs. It's why it gets a big cheer at concerts.
