TTY: Death is not the final word - Morrissey statement on TOMITA

Death is not the final word - true-to-you.net
20 December 2016

... for there are some people who are lucky enough to leave such a powerful mark on life that not even death can wipe them out. In this Year Of Death ... from Richard Davalos to Frank Finlay to Prince to my very dear friend Victoria Wood ... I struggled most of all with the death of TOMITA, whose Snowflakes are dancing (RCA) I have listened to constantly for 40 years, especially on hard days of self-judgment. It is a recording that you can listen to repeatedly until you hear nothing else. All you need to do is to keep quiet. In a few minutes all the right answers come through and you will find that there had never been any reason, after all, to feel angry.

If you do not know this recording, I envy your first listen. Track 5 especially will stay with you for always, as the best music does ... never outside time. It might take you back to the lost years of personal honesty in music, when artists gave everything that they had and everything that they were.

MORRISSEY

Didn't Tomita die over six months ago?

It is strange that this death is mentioned now. I don't remember reading about Morrissey commenting on it at the time.

I imagine Morrissey is quite aware that his non public comments re. Bowie's death is a still a topic of conversation on this website and I personally see this True To You statement as pure click bait.

He probably can't wait for the first anniversary of Bowie's death next month so he can issue a statement on True To You about how he is still mourning the death of Jobriath.

This was bloody awful! NES soundtrack.

that's one funny magic mushroom, this album. first i worried this might be one of those electronic goes classic things, but tomita, whom ive never heard of before, has created his own universe, it's never cliché though he arranged all sorts of "set pieces" within this universe, reverberating in a timeless vacuum, like starlight of planets long gone. plus the music is not imposing itself on the listener, it's light-hearted and playful, too good to be compared with anything coming from the oozing hollywood factory. i went to my local second hand book and vinyl shop today and inquired for tomita, and guess what, the owner knew him and was pretty sure he had his cds, and not just one, in one of the many banana crates, which he hadn't, as it turned out, but two cds by one kitaro. i prefer tomita to kitaro though. btw, merry christmas all

Very well put.
I had the same listening experience but could not describe it as well as you did.
Merry Christmas to you lanterns!

Well I've been so down in the dumps lately because one of my neighbors friends, cactus plant died last week ( the funeral was yesterday :( )

Thanks to you marred-arse-botty-bot I'm as chipper as ever now
If Steven said he liked dog shit you'd be the first out on the streets collecting the stuff, no doubt about it:clap:.

Thanks once again

You are right. I love dog shit. That's why I love reading your posts.

Nice post. I sometimes find it strange that people in general only seem to care about death when its someone they know or know about. Nobody mentions the slaughtered children in Aleppo or the fact the UN stand by and do nothing apart from having useless meetings. Prince dying was a tragedy but its nothing compared to what happens to innocent kids every day.
I get what you're saying but is there really any point in comparing the death of famous people to the children dying in Syria?

Prince's death is not nothing compared to the children dying in Syria and the children's deaths in Syria are not nothing compared to the death of Prince. It's a pointless comparison to equate deaths of any kind. If god forbid one of your loved ones dies tomorrow the children in Syria will be the least of your worries.

Damn - I always thought Morrissey hated Debussy. I guess he really does swing both ways?

Well that won't do your cancer any good Steven will it ? Does Dr Jeremy know you've taken up smoking ?
And what are you doing lurking around in some grubby outdoor toilets
I see you've had another annus horribilis yet again

Loving Morrissey's post, and of course becoming curious about Tomita's music, I bought a Snowflakes Are Falling CD and have been listening to it every day. This music really does give my mind a very welcome little vacation from its usual self. Thank you Morrissey! In addition to track 5, I really like track 8 - The Girl With the Flaxen Hair - I love the 'bubbles'. I love the whole album really, and it is extra relaxing by candlelight - just don't forget to blow out the candles if you are getting sleepy.

“We’ve managed to secure the DJ’s who run and perform at the Strangeways club night, DJs Robert, Carlo and Hugh, so the event will feature music from Vegan Music icon Morrisey and his band The Smiths as well as a mix of classic indie and rock."

There's no maybe about it my friend, it's set in stone that he's a CrankFruad hypocrite but at least we're making some ground now that you even acknowledge the real truth about how he earns his crust misleading his cult botwat-4cktard's :tiphat: Cheers !
